http://cjonline.com/news/local/2010-07-30/man_on_m oped_critical_after_crash Sounds like beanie helmets don't offer much more protection than no helmet. Duh! |

I think the statistic is something like 70% of head injuries in a cycle crash are facial |

I have a chart I pass out in my classes that shows the majority of impacts happen on the chin guard part of a helmet.... makes the kids think about their helmet purchase |

I tried my full face on my Softail. I can't do it. I feel like a damn bobble head doll. It's actually borderline painful. I wear the beanie style on it. I know it isn't going to help much but gives me peace of mind... |

I know it isn't going to help much but gives me peace of mind... Ironically that's what you are also going to the road a little piece of... |

Yeah I know Spidey. I smacked my head pretty good when I got hit in Dec. My jaw would blow out the side of my head with the helmet I wear on the Softail. I can't get my wife to wear anything! |

I can't get my wife to wear anything! We should all be so unlucky. Oh, you mean any helmet... |

I rode with a full helmet for 12 years or so, then no helmet for 3 years. After a couple good rocks or bugs (hard to tell which is which) to the puss, I'll be wearing full helmet for life. |

Last time I wore a half-shell, on a rental FLHX, the damn thing felt like a parachute strapped to my chin- the wind noise around the straps near my ears was unbearable- and the heat was like sitting in front of a hair-dryer. I now cruise around with a white fullface on my '77 Shovel, won't settle for less. DILLIGAF. |

When I went down in '08, I turned my fullface into a 3/4. Good thing the helmet took the brunt - my mug is ugly enough to begin with! |

Here's that diagram. Chin to eyebrows takes the hit 70% time, if you count it up. ~SM |

I always wear a full face helmet, I won't wear a modular, I have seen several flip open in a crash. My first full face helmet was a Bell Star in 1973..that earned me the nickname of "bullethead"...but it save my face many times before I got rid of it... |

good graphic we have this for the students to look at. Last Sunday I lost a cousin for a motorcycle crash in Florida. He lost control of his bike, he was not wearing a helmet, and died from head injuries. I wasn't close to him since I live many states away but have partied with him in my 20's. Its sad a helmet would have probably saved his life. K |

I always wear a full face helmet. The front lens is actually bullet proof. and has been tested for this. NO full face helmet what if a rock hits you in the face at 80 mph! OR worse in the eyes. |
