I did get to go out riding last Sunday, even though my bike is still in California pending me finding permanent housing here.
A friend of mine out here has a 2009 1050 Speed Triple and a 2010 Super Duke. Each are fully dialed in with pipes, ecm, custom maps, etc.
Most of the day I rode the Speed Triple, which was an overwhelmingly joyful experience. That bike is so stable, power delivery so smooth, perfect CG and seat height. I jumped right on it and felt as if it were my own. Very much at home on that.
The Super Duke I rode for about 2 hours. Let me just say that it's an experience I don't care to repeat. That bike is so damn twitchy, too damned tall, and the power delivery is just abysmal. After we got to our fuel stop, I told him, "dude take this thing back and give me that Triple". He alluded to the fact that in the 6 months he's owned it, it has been back to the shop 5 times for warranty issues and the dealer experience is much like what I remember from when I first got my XB.
Sad, considering how expensive that bike was. Looks great sitting on the stand in the garage, but it rides like an overpriced dirt bike... and on the street that just isn't what I'm looking for.
In all it was a great day riding in the North Georgia mountains. I can't wait to get my bike out here... just need a house first.
Pwnzor, Landstar does a bunch of shipping for us (Freightliner custom chassis) in Gaffney SC, let me know if you get anything coming out of us. We could go grab lunch.
