17 years old is ancient history for Urals. Yea, they look the same now, but they've done a LOT of improvements to them since 1993. You might consider looking for a newer one. |

There's a great long-term ride report on a Ural "Gear Up" on ADVrider that was posted a couple of years ago. It starts with the assembly at the bike at the dealer and traces the rider's exploits across the USA, including all that was wrong and right with the bike: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35 4338 You can learn a LOT about Urals by reading this thread. This guy (Mr. Cob) recently started a similar test/ride report of a new 2-wheeled Ural sport. Unfortunately, he had a low speed get-off last week and broke his collar bone. His tour has been temporarily suspended but he may resume in a few weeks. That ride report is here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59 8685 |

We had my Publisher's Ural in our display at 'speedshow' last weekend and I learned a bit about them from him and passing enthusiasts. Avoid pre-2003 models if possible because from they time on they used SKF bearings and it transformed the reliability - unless you are prepared to pull it down and do it yourself - because prior to this date they were made of cheese. Also seems to triple the 2nd hand price. |

The steering is not off set correctly on that model, you will have some shimmy and wobble at freeway speeds. Go look at the new ones, notice the difference in the front end fork suspension. Trust me, it makes all the difference in the world. |
