I have made up my mind. Tomorrow, I'm giving my boss my 2 week notice. I have no idea where my next job will come from, or what it will be; but I can't continue to work there. I've been miserable for the past while. Every day, I have to force myself to go to work. Life is too short to put up with feeling this way. In the past month 10% of the employees have left or given their notice. What was once one of the best jobs I ever held has turned into drudgery. Wish me luck; I'm gonna need it. |

Sounds like a ploy by a company to reduce the work force without costing them anything. |

Many reports are saying that you are more likely to find a new job if you are currently still working than if you are out of work. Just something to think about before you quit. I would also suggest actively seeking a new job first before quitting or getting fired. |

I would also suggest actively seeking a new job first before quitting or getting fired. +1 That's what I'm doing. I have good days and bad days. I'm going to get my CDL just in case on one of those bad days I tell someone where they can stick. Good luck Crusty. Hope everything works out well. |

Good luck buddy! I worked at a job I hated for too long. The best move I ever made was leaving that place. You're making the right choice. |

Trust me, I worked at a job that was causing me serious problems... Finally told them to shove it (by fax no less, I was out on built up vacation and sick time) had to wait 3 months while I found something else that was better (and now turning sour too). I fully understand the desire to just walk out but the job market sucks so you need every advantage you can get, and if that means keeping a job to show that your are employable, that's what you should do until you find something and can tell them to shove it. Times were significantly different when I did it, if times were that way again I might be far more tempted to do pretty much the same again now. For now I just go in and keep doing the things that are way above my pay scale and wait. |

Thanks for all the support. I'm not doing this lightly or on a whim. It's not just a case of not liking my job. My mental health is at risk. I wake up at 2:00 A.M. and lay in bed obsessed with wanting to quit until the alarm goes off; then I fall asleep. I've thought long and hard about how the bills will get paid, having affordable Health Insurance, and how will it affect my family. I've been going through this for the better part of a year, and I just can't do it any more. My wife supports me in my decision. Things may get tight for a while, but we'll get through. I honestly feel that this is the best thing I can do for myself and for my family. Maybe someday, I'll regret this decision, but I really doubt it. |

Crusty-- Jerry did that just 2 weeks ago. He liked what he was doing in his job, he just hated the way the company he was working for treated him (and others). He has not officially started searching yet for another full time job. But he will need to soon. Luckily we have the 6 months in the bank. And you are right----life is too short to live miserably! My buddy did the same thing Monday. He quit his job (that he hated) and left to start his own mechanic shop. He had a "quitting chain" hanging from his dining room chandelier. Every day he would remove another link. Monday was the last link. |

John, I truly wish you the best of luck. I knew from a couple of our conversations that you were not happy. You are a good, talented man. You know what you are doing. I know things will work out for you. Please keep us posted. Brad |

Best of luck with that. I struck out on my own in a similar fashion recently, and now I'm on sink-or-swim status due to being on pure commission. Georgia is being very good to me, I've got people loaning me motorcycles, offering me free places to live until I get on my feet, and high hopes. Oh, and I have love. Did I mention that's why I did it in the first place? Yeah, she's here... and we're together. Everything else will fall into place. It has to. Best of luck to you sir. |

Boy do I know how you feel. Going through that myself right now. I quit my job in Jan, was doing ok at my new job which was commision only, then had a stroke 2 months in. That pout me down for almost 3 months, and had to go back to old job. Hate the place, but I put together a 6 month plan to get back out. I basically grit my teath, and remind myself of my plan, and the direction I'm going several times a day so I keep showing up. Good luck to you, keep your head up, and it will work out in the end! |

John, Good luck in whatever you decide to do. Before I retired, I was slowly being pushed out by the young crowd that came into the workforce. Collage degrees up the wazoo, attitude, but no work experience, work ethic. I received the highest award in the company, but when promotion time came around, I received a normal rating. I was told the outstanding ratings were set aside for the people with a future. (I had 35 years in at the time.) My plan was revenge. Most sick days, I ever took was in the last year. Out the door at quitting time, played around with stocks on the computer, took daily long walks at work, etc. On the first day that I qualified for early retirement, I was out the door with full pension. Revenge is sweet. Don't get mad, get even. Bob |

Strongly advise you to wait until you have a job to go to. That’s my plan, though my situation is different. Layoff, are coming in September. All of the programming jobs in my shop are going off shore to India. Not a big loss since the shop is not a happy one. Still, I'd trying hard to find a gig so I can slide right from one to the other. That's what you should do too. Be realistic when you start your search. It's really scary out there. |
