I was trying to install the race ECM into my CR when the ultrasonic weld on the brass stud holding the ECM broke so that I could not remove the flex lock nut. I needed the 1000km service so I took it to my dealer and asked them to look at fixing the stud also. They told me HD would not fix the stud under warranty because there was no good reason for me to be messing with the ECM in the first place.

How many opinions do you need? It's a 5-10 minute process and it would seem to be common sense to take it out before sending to the dealer.

I sent my CR in for warranty work with the Erik Buell Racing ECM, they didn't care. They even cleared out the old error codes that I was too lazy to clear.

Do yourself a favor, don't bother bolting it down when you put it back in. Wedge it in under the battery cable in the area in front of the battery. A little electrical tape on the exposed wire ends at the ECM connectors just in case they come in contact with some of the sheet metal bits is a good idea, though mine aren't hitting anything. Over 5K miles that way so far with no issues.

Bad advice Rw, he's got a cr, so the ECM is in the the left pod.

OP, I'll bite. What service are you having done?

Ronald, We are spoiled. Not everyone has room to spare. Even on my cars I would take out extras or add ons prior to warranty claims.
