I've been kicking around ideas and options lately and came across this craigslist listing for someone wanting to trade their Blast for a travel trailer. http://appleton.craigslist.org/bar/1837700634.html I was thinking of trying that too, swapping off the M2 for a smaller hardside camper trailer like one of the Scamp 13'ers or one of the old U-Haul lightweight travel trailers they were renting out 10-30 years ago. I'd think about a pickup and cabover camper, but then I'd have to find a better deal and throw cash in instead of hopefully ending up with cash to my side in the end, and I'd have to sell off the car as well which puts me back into the "stuff ain't selling well these days" category. Oh well, just rambling about seeing someone trying to do what I was thinking of trying. Maybe I should ping him to see how it is working out. Or I can just wait since that seller might possibly be on the site here. |

OK, so you sell off the M2 for a travel trailer. What are you going to do when you get somewhere out in the boonies and set up camp? One thing you won't be doing is riding a motorcycle 'cuz you sold that to get this. You can have fun with travel trailer once you get somewhere. You can have fun on a motorcycle as soon as you leave your driveway. You can load up a motorcycle with camping gear and be somewhere different every night. Plus, an old trailer can be a money pit. If you're young and don't have a family yet, ride the crap out of your bike and get an RV when you're old; say 58 like me. Then you can have both. Finally, if you're still gung-ho for a travel trailer, figure out what your bike is worth and then see what that amount will buy in the used trailer market. |

I'm only three years younger than you. Also I would still have the S2 and a bagger to ride, along with numerous bicycles, so no problem there either. Reason for my swap thoughts is due to the possibility of needing temporary housing if I take a job in a too far to commute to location. Plus a hardside trailer is easier to pop into for a quick nap at a rest stop or WalMart parking lot if I get an out of state or distant job interview. Finally got a few responses in the job search, one 100-150 miles northwest, one 80 miles west, one commutable. So I'm just doing some house cleaning and preparing for possible scenarios. I do agree with your comments though , just thought I'd add more to the story for ya. |

Some walmarts can not allow campers do to the local campground lobby. Check the local Walmart for info. I would rather have a stealth camper. Box van that can be parked in a business district. Still room for a bike locked inside. Do some searching on the web for stealth camping. |

Good idea. Years ago back in the 1970's I had a breadvan with an 8' long box measured from the back of the seat to the rear doors. Had a fold-down cot on one wall and a small cast iron pot-bellied stove behind the passenger seat. Only thing that gave it away as sleepable was the smokestack out the top. I've thought about an enclosed cargo trailer and adding a couple of windows for air. I'll have to check weights and local used prices on those. I'm trying to keep the towed weight empty to around 1,000 Lbs, car has a 2,000 Lb tow capacity rating which should give me enough buffer to slip the S2 into the trailer. I hadn't heard that about some WalMarts, good to know. Off to some cycling sites to refresh on stealth camping. After checking nearby craigslist sites. Hopefully this all just turns into a mental exercise. X x x x x x x x x x x x x x Edit: Looks like there are several folks on the local CL looking to trade stuff for an enclosed trailer, they're trying to swap off cars, bikes, anything. I suspect more than a few folks are trying to load up and look for greener pastures. (Message edited by mikej on July 15, 2010) |

Either a Sprinter van (Winnebago makes the View out of 'em, along with a couple other floorplans), or a small box cargo trailer with fold-down cots and a roof a/c. Either one will get you started and let you see how much you use it...before dropping a ton of money. |

When I raced regularly, my trailer had an A/C, fold down cot, microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator,TV/DVD and a 10kw Onan diesel generator...plus room for two bikes, pit bike, tools and spares.. All that in a 16 foot trailer...took some head scratching to figure out how to make it fit.... |
