I am going on a decent ride in a couple of weeks, about 300 to 400 miles a day for a 4 day weekend and am looking to get some nice boots, fairly inexpensive but still a good boot. Must be comfortable to walk around in. Any suggestions? |

I have my eye on the Sidi On Road. Gonna pull the trigger soon, I think, but I don't know anyone who wears them. I currently wear a pair of the Cortech version of the TourMaster WP. Decent enough for a couple of years, but they've worn fast and need maintenance to keep waterproof. (Message edited by buellkowski on July 15, 2010) |

Best damned boots I've EVER worn, and they feel like they'll last forever. They don't look out of place in the office, they're comfortable to walk in (or teach an MSF course) all day, and they provide excellent protection. They're made by SIDI, which is all you really need to know. |

Sidi On Road's are awesome. I think they are the ultimate in street protection. Warm and waterproof. |

I recently bought a pair of these. I really like them so far, but I haven't had them long. http://www.perfmoto.com/alpinestars/footwear/web-g ore-tex-boot/boots?iwd=529 |

I have had these for 4 years. They are durable, comfortable to ride and walk in, and provide good protection. They flow air VERY well. This time of year, air flow is everything. They aren't "cheap", but they are very good. You can buy "cheap" boots every year that are adequate or you can buy good boots that last for several seasons that work great and are exactly what you want. You get what you pay for. |

If you have a wide foot try the SIDI way mega rain. It's comfortable and as good for walking as my regular shoes. Plus they are always dry inside. |

I just got a set of these: http://www.originalswat.com/productdetail.php?prod uct_id=MTI0&category_id=MTk= Super comfy, zip-up 9" tactical style. I think they're lighter than my sneakers. |

+1 on the sidi on road, mine have over 5 years on them. Gotta say tho, I rode half way across ( ok so maybe only a third) Wi in January and my toes did get pretty cold. It was dark and rainy when I got home, maybe that was the problem? Good boots however the break-in was kinda rough, 2 days walking around Road America took its toll. Since that I have had many outings doing a lot of walking and find them to be pretty comfy. |

Take a look at the Infinity TCX; expensive, but worth it... Got a pair in November, have ridden to work in the PNW every day since then, never wet - - once. Good tread for walking off the bike, great support, none of the plasticy crap... Most money I've ever spent on any motorcycle clothing accessory, but worth ever penny. |

+1 on the TCX (formerly Oxtar) I am wearing a pair of their Air Tech's as I am typing this. I also have a pair of Matrix that I wear in colder weather. Neither have ever let so much as a drop of water in, even in hours long torrential rain. Perhaps it's the genuine GoreTex liner? TCX boots aren't inexpensive, the same boot sold under the Oxtar label was significantly less money (mine are Oxtar's). I didn't get a vibe from Mstatz that he was in the market for $250 + boots, that's why I recommended the TourMasters. A very good boot at an excellent price point. |

There's an almost identical thread in the KV "apparel" section, with good info. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/483323.html?1269298625 |

Frank, The Combat Lites are not sold as being waterproof. That being said, I regularly treat my boots with Doc Bailey's and I've been caught in some monsoons since I've owned them and my feet have never gotten wet. I wouldn't go standing around in rivers or creeks with them, but on the bike, in the rain, they work just fine. |

Joe(Ratbuell) gave me an idea...I work at a hospital, so I went to the ER and talked to some of the EMT's to see what they wear, if anybody is on their feet a lot and needs good support it is those guys and gals. All of the EMT's suggested some type of tactical boot with a zipper. I rumaged through the various internet sites that they suggested and decided on an 8in Paraboot with a side zipper made by Rocky. One of the guys let me try his on, he said they were 3 years old and ready for their first resole. It is his second pair of Rocky's. Thanks for all of your input and Happy Buelling!! |

I've got an old pair of the Buell boots, very comfy, but in no way could you call them waterproof! The only good thing about their extreme lack of waterproofness is that they dry out quickly. |

Joe, those Original SWAT's look nice - too bad you have to choose between side zip convenience and waterproof (no zip). |

Thorogood makes a waterproof side zip tactical boot that's one of the most comfortable boots I've ever worn. They're pretty reasonably priced, too. Their biggest flaw is that the soles squeak on floor tiles.

I owned a pair of Thorogoods a few years ago. They were pretty inexpensive and VERY comfortable. Mine weren't the least bit waterproof though. They looked just like the one Crusty posted. If they have found a way to make that boot waterproof and maintain the comfort and price, that would be excellent. |

These are pretty much considered the very best of the best. They flow more air than any other motorcycle specific footwear. Designed from the ground up for safety and comfort on a motorcycle. http://www.kratzmc.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/ 577_2.jpg |

Rat, if I may ask, what kind of boot (how high--9" like you referenced above) or a full height MC riding boot did you have when you crashed awhile back? I've thought about a 9" style boot, but haven't pulled the trigger on getting some because of lower leg/ankle protection concerns. Has anyone else, ahem, "tested" any of the 9"/lower cut boots? Any injuries that you think would have been avoided had you had a set of full height boots on? |

I have tested my boots twice, but I have to say that both the tests were fairly low speed. I did have to replace my mesh jacket, helmet, and gloves each time, but not my boots. The boots I was wearing at the time were combat boot, non-motorcycle specific, and were not very tall. I did not sustain any injury to my feet, ankles, nor lower legs. I can't promise others will be as fortunate as I was, but a lower boot was certainly no problem for me. |
