Here is the bike I picked up for $1800. BAndit GSF1200S. I was going to pick up 2 85 Nighthawks for $1500 but this one popped up and I had to have it. I'm so used to 1203CC anyway right? Well it's got 17K. Full Micron Exhaust. Hyabusa Chain. Highway pegs. 2 years ago the carbs were re-built. Professional paint job and not a spec of rust anywhere. Not even in the tank! I'm going to have to drain the gas, change all fluids and get a new battery as it sat in a shop for 2 years. Started once in that time then sat. We started it with the bad gas and it ran but the gas made it really stink. I'm not gonna start it again until I get it all sorted out though. I'm guessing it probably needs a valve adjustment as I think these types of bikes require that. Any advice on what I should do to get it worthy again would greatly be appreciated. This should tide me over until I get another Buell. AND I WILL!

Sounds like a good price for that bike!

Looks like it might need a new rear tire.

Drain the gas, throw in a little SeaFoam and ride the piss out of it, that should clear out any old gas and deposits. Fill with fresh gas and ride the piss out of it.

+1 Greg. Those bikes don't require much to get going again. Good find.

Assume it needs a valve adjustment unless they can tell you it was done and if you believe them.

Good news is... it's a piece of cake with the old screw/locknut valve adjusters. No removing cams or shims. If you're half-decent with a wrench and feeler gauges you can manage.

Interval will be about 6k to 7.5k miles. You may find that as the bike gets some miles, you can stretch those intervals out a bit.

I know some of the earlier air/oil cooled bandits were prone to oil consumption/piston ring issues. Keep an eye on it.

Like all carbureted UJMs it probably came from the factory really lean. The micron exhaust is likely to compound this problem. Make sure it was jetted properly or you'll be shopping for new pistons.

Congrats. You got a really good do-it-all bulletproof bike.

I took it for it's "clean out" ride today. Took gas tank off and cleaned out as much of the bad gas. It didn't look rusty at all. Just stale gas. I put some gas treatment in it. At first I had to run it with the choke to start off and then I hit the interstate. worked like a charm! It runs really really strong and good. The Micron isn't too loud either. Seems like a very good bike. I have the factory service manual and I could do the valve adjustment no problem.
