Very last minute notice, but I was just freed up from work and am going to attempt my first SS1k tomorrow. Memphis > Chattanooga > Bristol > Nashville > Memphis Hope to stop in Bristol for lunch and a rest around 2-3PM. If anybody wants to meet up, shoot me a PM. I will be checking mail and updating my location at gas stops. http://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=6705 -Brinton |

Sounds like fun. When you get to East Tennessee, you might want to abandon the SS1K and ride some epic twisties. |

Thanks for the well wishes! And yeah Chad, I nearly did when I saw the exit for Cherohala skyway. Ride is done. No piccies though, sorry. IBA suggests time management is the biggest problem, so I was focusing on that. Now I know why. Pre-planning had it around 16-18 hours and I took 20. Now to finish up the paperwork and send it in and figure out why the SpotWalla thing didn't work. Oh yeah, and re-waterproof the seams of my rain pants... -Brinton |

Congrats, I just finished one on 7/3/2010. It took 20 hours with 800 miles in the rain and one major break down. I did the route with two other riders. One on a FJR1300 and the other on a K1200GT. I was on the Uly, it was a blast. Dalls, TX to El Paso and back |

Ducbsa Biggest one that caught me later on the trip was lack of sleep. If you notice, my initial post was 1 AM and I got up at 5:30 to leave. Gotta love IT work. /eyeroll But here is a quick list: - Tire pressure check and bag repack for 30 min ea. - 300 miles of non-interstate - 2 hours of riding in the rain - Two stops over an hour ea. to sleep. The non-interstate was Hwy 64 from Memphis to Chattanooga. Limits vary from 45-65, but very pretty. Had planned on extra time for that section, but maybe not enough. If I had to do it over again though, wouldn't change my route. This was my first time running a truly long-distance ride, so I was expecting to miss stuff. Still kick myself about the tires though. That should have been an obvious day before item. Won't call the sleep stops controllable, since that would have mentally caused me to try and push harder than was safe. I was already prepared to call off the ride and grab a motel room. -Brinton |

Congrats and not trying to hi-jack your thread, but there is an IBA SS1000 event coming up on Sept. 2nd that will start in Erwin, TN (northeast part near Bristol). Here is the link if anyone is interested, check out the "who's riding" as well (me). http://www.tennesseevolunteer1000.org/index.htm |

Dayum. I'm wanting to do an Ironbutt ride, and Erwin is pretty close for me. I wish that event were on the weekend. I just used up all my vacation time at work. |
