"we are not the enemy here" Nope, you are the enemy. You want to make money off of this tragedy. You want to sensationalize the damage. You want to be in the way. You don't want to help. You don't want to show the positive things. 65 feet...like that's a big deal???? Wonder what he does when a fire truck goes by and the sign on the back of the truck sez: STAY BACK 500 FEET!! |

Still, without the prying eyes of the press, what kind of coverups are going to go on. I think the order came from VERY high up, from the one who THINKS he's America's savior. After all, wasn't that the White House Press Secretary standing next to the Admiral? That guy can't open his mouth without a string of BS coming out! |

You ARE the enemy. Well, you would be if you really were a honest press. Then you'd REALLY be the enemy! Gee, I mostly agree with all the above sarcastic comments...... carry on! Happy Independence Day Anderson! ( you tool ) |

Wow, and that was on CNN too, about time the pick the ball back up and stop towing the government line. And there are certain shots that just can not be gathered at 65 feet, no matter what lens you use. |

look there are more important things for the 'media' to be reporting than actual news... I mean isnt it the Anniversary of Michael Jackson's death?..... oh, wait, they already had the weekend long tribute for that. |

Journalist Jan Helfeld asking questions that try to make Democratic Congressman from California Pete Stark realize how STUPID he sounds making the Claim that "the more Debt you have, the more prosperous you are," are rewarded with the verbal threat of, " get the F*** out of here before I throw you out the window. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjbPZAMked0 |

That video was 2 years ago. Wonder if Congressman Stark thinks this country is even wealthier since we have an additional 7 trillion in debt. |

Rant on... I and many of my fellow journalists did not vote for Obama. In fact, most of us despise politicians and do not fawn over them, whether Obama or Bush or Clinton or Reagan, under whom ketchup was a vegetable for school lunches. And why do you think there's a 65-foot rule in place? Is it for the press so they can't photograph up close and personal the oily globs on white sand? Could it be to keep municipal workers from cleaning their own beachfronts or PETA people from trying to get to oil-soaked critters, or shrimpers from creating their own oil barriers around shrimping grounds? The truth is that the government and the politicians, whether Republican or Democrat, are not on your side. They are on their own side, their party's side. The majority of reporters are on no one's side. They're just trying to figure out what the hell's going on and who's screwing who. As sad is it may be, without independent newspapers and reporters, people only hear the Truth that BP PR, the Coast Guard PR, the White House PR, The Democrat PR, The GOP PR want them to hear. You won't get truth from Fox News, you'll get their spin on it. You won't get truth from MSNBC, you'll get their spin on it. You won't get it from bloggers on the Internet, the majority of whom only comment on news reported by others. Trust no one who believes in an 'isms' and 'ions.' Yeah, bash the media. Without us you'll know nothing but what THEY want you to know. Wake up and smell the truth. It doesn't always fit YOUR single-minded, politcally-grounded, unwilling-to-question-my-own-opinion reality. Open your frickin' minds and be and educated populace like Jefferson expected you to be. Rant off. |

Um, wait: how can you tell us to have faith in the media in one breath ("The majority of reporters are on no one's side. They're just trying to figure out what the hell's going on and who's screwing who") then tell us we can't believe the media because they put their own spin on it? I'm confused...? ~SM |

If you can't take a good photo from 65ft you should have your press pass revoked. |

Sorry Rainman, you personally may be doing a good job, but the media as a whole has been letting down the country in a HUGE way. Listening to todays media, which is something like 70% liberal, is like listening to a 17 year dating your daughter as to why he should or shouldn't have sex with her. He may try and report both sides and be objective. He will fail. We need to purge the media of people who joined it to try and drive social change, and fill it with people that want to get to the bottom of every last fact objectively, and just let the chips fall where they may. We don't have that today, and the country (and constitution) need it desperately, and it is costing us a literal fortune each and every day. |

I missed something here, is it the same people who lied about Saddam not having the wmd's he used on the Kurds & Iranian child warriors, who are lying about how oil soaked the penguins are? I can totally see why reporters are upset that they don't have access to the big story. Especially when the "culprit" is the one taking your camera. Especially when the "culprit" gave a whole buncha money to the police that are keeping you away from the story, and an even bigger buncha money to the guy in the White House who shows up a few times in dress shoes to get a photo op on the beach with a group of "cleanup crew" that comes & leaves with him, never to be seen again. If I was press I'd be royally pi$$ed. Now you can't have press bozo's interfering with vital recovery work. Some of the equipment used to try and reduce the damage is very dangerous. Like Boats, with all those lines and booms and spinny things you don't want the ignorant to touch. Or are we just mocking the fact that Anderson Cooper is a whiny bitch? ( who has done some good work, btw.) He might even be right that there is a vast conspiracy to conceal the damage until the next election, or maybe the links between this regime and B.P. Or, perhaps the deliberate amplification of a crisis to exploit. I'd like to see some reporting on that Anderson. |

Reep, the problem is that Journalism schools are, almost exclusively, a haven for leftist ideology, and every reporter since Nixon wants the "deep Throat" chance to bring down an admin. Even Clinton, the teflon don, and very well loved by the press, was meat when the blue dress scandal hit. True, 9 1/2 years of bashing bush are really annoying, and I don't think the Dem's and their minions ( or the other way around, your choice ) realize how much they tore the fabric of civility with that bashing. ( I also wonder when it will stop? Probably never. ) There is no reason now to be polite about politicians. Why bother? It's not like your opponents are not going to call you a nazi first chance they get. You just have to support the news guys that suck the least. Until they get shut down by Homeland Security for being controversial. ( ie. disagreement with the regimes lies ) |

Thats just it... Even the blue dress scandal... Drudge had to pound and pound on that and give it legs before the media would even touch it. For God's sake, there was a strong democratic supporter who was unwilling to deny Clinton *raped* her... but the press still kept it "second page" relative to other things going on. How do you think they would have treated it if it was Bush or Palin that had accusations like that? Would they have kept the same burden of proof before escalating the story or giving it prominence? Compare it to the Dan Rather story about Bush's preferred treatment in the national guard. As dubious a story as they get, yet it was everywhere until some college kid on a blog was able to do some "deep investigation" (LOL) and show the document was a fake (duh!). That's how the bias comes out... if it fits your paradigm, it gets the benefit of the doubt. If it doesn't, then the burden of proof is high. If its something you believe in, you give it great coverage in a beautiful way. If its something you disagree with, you spit objectivity though clenched teeth with hostile undertones. I agree the media is biased... my beef is that 75% of the media is biased FAR left, and maybe 25% of them are honest about it (or, giving them the benefit of the doubt, self aware enough to recognize it). I think we ought to go back to the two party paper system. One conservative voice and one liberal voice, both honest about who they are, and each telling their own story effectively. I don't call the NPR crowd idiots, but I do call them biased. I wouldn't beef if the NPR crowd called Fox news biased. But when they call them idiots, they simply reflect how out of touch they really are with reality. |

Heck, I often find Fox news a bit leftist. ( not the opinion guys, they tend far right ) But only because they parrot the exact same Reuters or AP story that everyone else does. Even when it's something that I actually know about and know it's a lie for political reasons. ( most of the rest, I just assume....) NPR is full of people who are certain that Stalin was just not as smart as they are, if they had been in charge, Communism would have worked just fine. Actually had one local guy on Public Radio complain it had gone too far right. ( he's one who's sure Stalin just wasn't as smart as he is.) What I'd like to see is Fox put a voice stress analyzer on politicians speeches. Do it as a Comedy show, since you can get away with a lot more there. maybe get John Stewart to host? |

I thought it was interesting to hear The White House rep say "Who would ever listen to Gov. Jan Brewer, she doesn't even have a college degree" Some of the smartest folks I know don't have degrees and I never dismiss anyone or their opinion based on having or lack of a degree. The Obama White House has got to be the most biased, racist and arrogant group I've ever seen. |

Rain Man the media made Obama In my dffering jobs over the years I have found a univeral truth to live by NEVER speak to a reporter on news person. If the persist call law enforcement and have them removed Every reporter wants to be Woodward or Bernstein and change the world. Reporters never create of affirm just tear down. Look at the way they attacked Joe The plumber or any of the others they try to destroy. Ever wonder why the media is going broke? We are tired of the lies why buy the NYT when you know they are unable to police out the Jason Blairs Or worse they wanted him to lie. All of the great news papers sold thier souls honor and creditablity to be objective in news reporting along time ago. Reporters have one standard Truth without that they do not matter. News people think thay are a equal branch of government even if that were true goverments serve citizens citizens do not serve governments Every few generations we have to remind goverments of thier place |

Once had a "supervisor" who couldn't accept the fact that I had been hired as an engineer on the Space Station without a degree. I proposed a question, "Suppose one person with an engineering degree is serving fries at MacDonald's. Another person without a degree has the title of Senior Design Engineer and is designing multiple modules for the Space Station. Who is the engineer?" Her answer was...interesting. G |

Greg, just because I'm very curious. What was her answer. BTW, people are amazed that I work handling the communications payloads on satellites. The guys in the Air Force who do this are all officers with degrees. In the Army it's the enlisted who do this with no degrees. |
