I'll ask my proven brothers here too. I've only got 320 miles on the new Super Duke. Do you think it would be ok if I installed my FMF slip-ons? The mechanic at the dealership said to wait until after breakin (600 miles), and then at the same time get the ECU reflashed for it. The guys on the Super Duke forum said go ahead, "the stock map is rich enough". Shit I ran my XB with Drummer for 6K miles before I got a race ECM. I just hate the sound of the stock cans on the Duke, really weak... Thoughts? |

I say ride the thing, get used to it before wasting your money on something like a muffler. You might find that a seat or different foot pegs are a higher priority. Hell I bet you haven't even filled the gas tank yet! |

I have the cans sitting right here. I wish the bike got 300 miles per a 4.1 gallon fill. |

My thought would be that if you change the mufflers sooner than recommended by your dealer's mechanic, and something breaks, no matter how unrelated it is to the exhaust system, you'll catch grief trying to get it repaired under warranty. |

+1, what Hugh said. Get an MP3 player and some good earbuds for your ear candy. Once the bike is broken in, go ahead. |

WAIT until run-in is finished. Back pressure is the friend to young engines. In fact, I typically break my own rebuilds in with used mufflers and fouled air cleaners, and install new stuff after the run-in interval is completed...(and I change the oil about 5 times more often than recommended during this period). |
