Terri and I just got home. We rode from Atlantic to Pacific. Rockport, Massachusetts to Newport, Oregon. We had great Strudel in Rockport for breakfast and great Mexican in Newport for dinner.
We attended the Buell Homecoming and the Moto Guzzi National Rally. We got caught in a thunderstorm that spawned a tornado. We rode through miserably strong cross winds for hundreds of miles. We saw amazing things. We saw Mt. Rushmore. We rode Route 12 from Lolo, MT to Lewiston, ID (100 miles of proof that God really does love motorcycles). We rode I 84 through the Columbia River Gorge. We got stopped for going 83 MPH in a 65 MPH zone in eastern Oregon. We rode at speeds over 90 for hours at a time in Montana, South Dakota, Idaho and Wyoming. We endured temps over 100°, and under 50.
We made new friends and saw old friends.
We had a wonderful trip. We took a bunch of pictures, but I'm too tired to put them up right now. Maybe tomorrow.

We took over 200 pictures on our trip.
Here are just a few.
In our driveway on the morning of June 14

We had to stop in Syracuse for lunch at the original Dinosaur BBQ

We arrived at Alpine Valley

Andrea, Dana and Rocco

Roma's for pizza

A few more from Homecoming

Here's a pair that will beat a Full House

This is Bob; a former elf and a true class act

Of course, we had to get a pic of Erik after he signed Terri's Ss

And, of course, my favorite Buell related shirt

More to come later...

Great trip Crusty! You even crossed paths with my wife and I. We went through John Day while the Moto Guzzi Rally was on, on our way back from a bunch of hot springs in Idaho. Had breakfast in Mount Vernon and were home for dinner.

We left Homecoming, and headed west. We stopped at the rest area on the Mississippi River in Minnesota

We arrived at the Badlands the next afternoon

While we were in the National Park, a thunderstorm moved in and it started pouring and hailing on us. The winds were ferocious and I could hardly keep the bike upright. when we looked up, the clouds were moving in a circular pattern. Fortunately, the tornado didn't touch down near us, since we were out in the open with no place to take shelter.

The next day, we went and saw Mt. Rushmore. I worked underground as a hard rock driller for years, and I'm amazed at the amount of skill and craftsmanship necessary to sculpt a mountain into such a tribute to our Nation. If you've never seen it, you're missing one of the great works of art.

On the recommendation of Dawn (another former Elf) and her husband Ron, we rode the Needles Highway

We continued West into Wyoming

After looking at maps and calculating time/distance, we decided to take U.S. Route 12 from Lolo, Montana to Lewiston, Idaho. At the beginning of the pass there is a squiggly arrow with a sign under it that says, "Next 99 Miles" I thought it was a load of Bullshit. It wasn't. Lolo Pass is one of the best motorcycle roads I've ever been on. That 100 miles alone is worth riding across the Country for.

One of the problems with traveling through areas with amazing scenery is that if you stop to take pictures, you don't get too far. There was so much incredible beauty and so many things to see that we just didn't have time to photograph even 10% of them. The other problem is that we just got tired of stopping, digging out the camera, taking a photo then stuffing the camera back into the bag. Now that we're home, we're discussing a lot of the really neat things we saw that we didn't take pictures of.
Anyway; we made it to John Day, Oregon and the Guzzi National Rally.

The area was beautiful, with great roads for motorcycles everywhere.

We had the local welcoming committee stop and inspect our tent

The Guzzi Demo bikes were there. Terri decided to try out a Norge

The next time you see Terri, ask her about her "extended" Demo ride on the Norge. It's a great story.
There was a Bike Show. This was my personal favorite Guzzi

After the Rally ended, we continued west. we only got a few miles down the road when we had to stop and take a couple of pictures. The John Day Fossil Beds are incredibly beautiful, and the pictures we took don't begin to capture just how spectacular the area is.

After more wonderful roads and fantastic scenery, we made it to Newport, Oregon and the Pacific Ocean

We found a GREAT Mexican restaurant and had a wonderful dinner.
Our journey West started with a breakfast in Rockport on the Atlantic, and ended with a dinner in Newport on the Pacific.

I'm with ya, Court. Cross country trips are full of memories that may fade, but never vanish.

Hope to do a Lap of America next year.

Thanks for the report, Crusty.

Holy crap, this is crazy. I was driving a bus of kids out to the Pine Ridge Reservation in SD the day after I got back from HC when a Guzzi and XB rode by, just before the Badlands. I knew it was someone who I'd seen around Alpine Valley, but I didn't think it was you, Crusty. Funny stuff.

Thanks much for the keychain!
