Thanks Squids, that was our laugh for the day! Was really hoping you could make it too Glitch. It would have completed the circle of everyone we wanted to meet with. I missed getting my tattoo while I was over there too as it was to be my American souvenir, but will send forth a pic once it's done back here. |

There's so much to see and do, y'all couldn't see and do everything. After going through all the pics, it's hard to believe just how much y'all squeezed in! |

Exactly- I always find myself correcting friends in Europe when they say that America is this or that. I analogize the parable of the blind men and the elephant to keep it in persepective. Far too diverse a country to sum up based upon visiting a few regions. I've spent most of my American life on either coast, and find the 'flyovers' and dixie to be so dramatically different from either, and from one another, as to seem separate countries. We're a complicated, multicoloured aggregate in a very sticky, tarry capitalist matrix, to be sure. (Message edited by tramp on July 05, 2010) |

Friendly's "Hunka Chunka PB Fudge" ice cream. Russell Stover's Chocolate covered marshmallow eggs, santas, rabbits, etc. ( thank goodness they are seasonal. I'd be way fatter than I am now ) Rice Crispy peanut butter cookies, not the marshmallow ones. Twice as dense, 4 times as evil, easy to make at home....never the same from a store. http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1710,131185-250199 ,00.html America has many ways to blow your culinary mind. We come from all over the world. The idea of a melting pot shines in our varied cuisine. Gumbo alone has influences from France,(roux) Germany, Acadians, (smoked sausage)Spain, (peppers) Africa, (okra!) and Native America.(file powder/ground sassafras) Even as we speak, Vietnamese food is making inroads on New Orleans, has, and will make it's own mark on American Food. If Martians moved here, we'd BBQ Thoats and Zitidars. With Nam Pa sauce on the side. |

I think the real thing to sum up all that can be good about the USA and the state of the world in general, is that Reese Cups are now available in a DARK CHOCOLATE version! World Peace can't be far behind. |

Despite my love for dark Chocolate, the Reeses Cups don't IMHO get it right. Too grainy, and the flavor balance is not quite there. Not bad, mind you, just not perfection. Walmart had a house brand of small dark chocolate cups..... dang, now I have to go see if they still have them...( and buy some ) see ya....... |

Now this is a cake!!!
1 box Pillsbury Devils Food Cake Mix 4 large eggs 1/2 Cup canola oil 1/2 Cup water 8 oz sour cream 1 small box instant chocolate pudding mix 1 bag mini or regular chocolate chips _____________________ 2 8oz package softened cream cheese 1 stick softened butter 16 oz bag powdered sugar (most of it) **the original recipe was double this but I always ended up with WAY too much leftover frosting so I cut it in half _____________________ 2 Cup melted creamy peanut butter 1 bag of Reeses Peanut Butter Cup minis, halved (freeze bag for an hour before cutting, it’s much easier) 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a stand or electric mixer add the cake mix, eggs, oil, water, sour cream, pudding mix and chocolate chips. Beat until well combined, about 1 1/2 minutes. Will be thick. Pour evenly into 2 well greased 9 inch cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean from center of cakes. Let cool completely. 2. To prepare cream cheese frosting place softened cream cheese and butter into a mixing bowl, beat on med-high speed until creamy smooth. Slowly beat in powdered sugar until a good spreading consistency forms. I used almost the entire bag of powdered sugar. Refrigerate for a good hour before frosting. 3. Turn cakes onto wax paper and with a large serrated knife cut each cake in half width wise to form 4 layers. Place one layer onto a cake stand and drizzle melted peanut butter over top. Next spread a generous amount of cream cheese frosting over that. Place another cake layer on top and repeat peanut butter and frosting until top layer is placed. Spread remaining frosting over entire cake then top with halved Reeses Peanut Butter Cup Minis. |

Just looking at that cake, I can hear my arteries screaming, Noooooooo! ... but every other fragment of my being is still gently persuading me to take "just one bite, only one." |

Yep, looove reeses pieces. Almost run out now. Have found some reeses/hersheys but so damn expensive! One bag of mini peanut butter cups is $15 here! Only 2 places within about an hour of us have them. I could get some shipped over for less than that! We haven't made the slab yet Ourdee, but it's on our list. We're both in the process of quitting smoking, so we are going to have to be careful what we replace it with!! |

Oh noes! You're both quitting smoking AND you've found all this deliciousness? You should have started jogging last week! $15 a bag for peanut butter cups? WOW! We need to send them a care package for all the help Vamps has done on the racing t-shirt thread but it would probably end up in one big melted gooey mess. Which, now that I think about it may not be all that bad. |
