Good question, Tim. Melanie has built her own business over the past 10 years and has now come to the point where she can arrange things to take off up to two months. She started the planning for that over a year ago. I, on the other hand, am consultant and I have several projects under way that I can't just put on hold. It just goes to show: She's smarter than I. |

She is an artist and owns themagpie.com. She derives her income from teaching classes all over the country and selling kits online. It took a while to class schedule so she could have a 2 month gap and do the ride. I get to fulfill the orders from her website while she's out and about. It is good to be your own boss. |

Now she's in the Heart of Texas Hill Country. She's covered about 1,600 miles so far and discovering that this is a big country. Follow her here, if interested. Addition: She just called me all excited. It's raining! Well, that might not be big news to many of you but for us Californians, that exciting. She has stopped for the day though and is enjoying a dinner and suds at a Biergarten (Auslander) in Fredricksburg. (Message edited by doerman on June 07, 2010) |

I grew up in that area, the Texas Hill Country that is. Good on her for the trip, I will taking my trip in July west to the MotoGP and then east to the atlantic. Not a lap, but a good 7000 miles or so on the 1125R....great trip though. |

Hey Neil, buddy we got to get together, middle age crazy hit me hard man, do I have a story for you...call me or something. If she gets this way I have a big garage, spare room, coffee pot and internet access. I am hardly here anyway, so lemme know and I will hide her a key. Asbjorn, I will be going through LA to see an old high school friend that could use a beer and a dirty joke or two, her boys are all grown up and she isn't riding her busa much anymore, gotta kickstart her fever again..gonna try to kidnap her and make her come to the race, but ya never know...what a sweet lady though everybody loves being around her. Anyway, we are doing a trip to go up the PCH to Laguna then Reno to see college friends, the Rockies to see my Dad, memphis to see Elvis cause I hear he is missing me, kentucky because I have never been there, Harper's Ferry because it is cool and West Virginia roads in summer are awesome, the blue ridge parkway, the Dragon and the home for my buddy but I think I am gonna wander for a bit then go fishing with my Dad for a while. I will see you in LA if you want though. I like the blog, your wife seems really cool, but I am a sucker for artists so that could be it, artists that ride, double sucker.. have a good one. |

So now she's in New Orleans. French Quarter, here she comes! She had an adventurous ride yesterday between Fredericksburg and Beumont, TX. Lots of rain, thunder and lightening (sounds like a Buell thing - this was the Mother Nature thing) Dale. Let me know when you are in LA. Send me a PM. |

If she gets near Virginia Beach, I trade her a hot meal for some stories from the road. I'm sure by the time she gets to the Mid Atlantic she has come across a story or two to tell. |

After some respite and fun with friends in Sarasota, she's on her way again. She's spending the day in Key west. Here's her route so far: Where it goes there and on what schedule is hard to say.. She'll probably trek up along the Atlantic side of FL and up along the eastern seaboard. She's been faithfully blogging and will keep on doing so. I got concerned when I saw what she was up to in Sarasota: Thought perhaps she had been out in the sun too long.. |

Update: She's moving along the coast line at her own pace and seeing wonderful things along the way! She will get to Trenton, NJ today, unless the rain gets heavy and she stops sooner. She, the Triumph, Bill and Alien are doing well and having a great time. She's been taking routes off the beaten path as much as possible and enjoying the "backroads of America" and finding things like this: The smallest church in America. You can read for yourself on her blog She plans no more than two days out. But tomorrow she'll be in Bergenfield, NJ and probably stop and see the City. I forgot to mention: She's past the half way point! She has about 6K miles behind her now. (Message edited by doerman on June 28, 2010) |

Frank you were raised (off and on) That explains a lot! You know I am just having fun with you, right? It is a good blog with interesting tidbits from various parts of the US. Mark: Her eastern/northenmost point is Bar Harbor Maine. Then she will turn westward. Timing as to where she will be when? I dunno. Thanks for the offer though! I'll relay info to you as she progresses. |

Ha, funny!!!! If she happens to come through Colorado on her return trip let me know. If nothing else I think Lynn and I could ride with her for a day or two depending on timing. (Or look for places of interest to her) If she gets as far South as Pueblo or Colorado Springs we can set her up for the night. I imagine, judging from her past and current track, that she will be a little North of us. Frank |
