Resurrecting historical accounts of war and conquest from millennia ago to attack the Jewish and Christian faiths, trying to assert some kind of moral equivalence between the Jews of two thousand years ago to the militant islamists of today?
What a pathetically lame and ignorant point.
Please address the present, the here and now. Then if you have time, go study your biblical history and find where it was that the Jews went around willy nilly slaughtering random civilians the world over.
Islamist fascists, meaning militant fundamentalist islamists intent upon imposing global islamic rule, have been intentionally targeting and murdering innocent civilians , men, women, children, babies for decades now, the world over, in America, Britain, France, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel, Germany, Spain, Turkey... etc.

You might also compare the most dearly held tenets of the islamists--stay muslim or be murdered for apostasy--versus other faiths of the world.
Then study the entire honest history of islam since its inception, one of constant warfare, murderous conquest, subjugation and oppression.
The miserable evil bastards are still intent upon "recapturing" their former islamist "holy" lands, Spain, Portugal and the entire Ottoman empire.
Thank God for the Crusades that helped temporarily put an end to the islamist expansion, conversion by the sword.
The murderous evil bastards need to be dispatched from this earth, the sooner the better. |

I could have used Avatar Fans instead of Baptist, the point is the same. ( neither group is actively trying to enslave you... ok, the Avatar people were a little deep end there for a bit, but they've mellowed )
Multiple groups of people ( mostly related to wahabist, Saudi based sects...but not all ) who claim to be the adherents to the one true faith, kill in the name of that faith, and say, out loud, and in their daily writings, that they wish to rule all the world. I am not making it up, and calling them other that what they are, the Islamics who wish to rule all, is stupid.
How many times do you have to hear the BS that "not all muslims are violent"???? ( truth, but obvious to all but children ) or "Islam is a religion of peace" ( outright lie, it was born in war, and most of the people murdered in conflicts this century were murdered by Muslims. Especially other Muslims. )
If the Avatar Fans don't want to be thought ill of, they have to have cojones. I'm very glad a few are speaking up. It's a trend to encourage.
That means you must be prepared to protect the "moderate" Avatar Fans, since the "radical" ones will try and murder them. You realize that? |

Blake, I look at it very simply.
if your "faith" calls for the murder of women and children who have nothing to do with resisting your world domination to make people fear you..... that's evil.
if your "faith" calls for you to stand between the innocent and the wolves.....that's (usually) good. ( the conditional comes when someone is defending his village....full of terrorists )
But we digress from the topic of this thread.
So far, the only suggestion I've read on this forum from those who oppose the "war on terror" is to go ahead and conquer the planet....again. ( and that was on this very thread. Usually, the anti-war-on-terror types just refuse to make positive suggestions at all. Toronto S3 deserves credit, even though his "idea" may have been sarcasm )
First, "war on terror" as often said, is a crappy name. How about "defense against violent Jihad"?? or "just say no to theocracy"?
Second, why doesen't someone else conquer the world and solve the problem? Oh, yeah! I remember now! Because everyone else who want's to conquer the planet, want's to rule it!
We are the only nation I know of to actually, voluntarily, give the planet back to it's previous owners. Not perfectly, mind you, but still. The troubles in the mid-east through the balkans are directly related to the Ottoman Empire, WW1, and the Colonial powers dividing up the spoils.
In the entire seven-year course of the Afghanistan war under Bush, from October 2001 to January 2009, 625 American soldiers were killed. In 18 short months, Obama has nearly doubled that number to 1,124 Americans killed.
So, once again, with HOPE for CHANGE, I ask for constructive ideas to solve the problem of medieval priests calling for religious rule.
I'd make some snarky comment about "isn't it Canada's turn to save the world?" but it would be unfair. Canada is a great land with neato people who don't have the money to defend themselves, ( like western Europe, they use the U.S.'s armed forces to allow more spending on social programs ) and already are staunch allies with very limited resources stretched to the breaking point helping us In Afghanistan today. They literally can't do much more.
The U.S. is the last stand for freedom. When we go down, no one else can save us. ( and IMO, that is the goal of some in this admin. The days of saving Europe are OVER. ) |

Bearing in mind that the middle east was civilized long before my ancestors worked iron.... there has to be a factor that made time stand still.
As late as 500+A.D. Persia was equal in tech to Rome. After the Crusades and the re-conquering of Jerusalem by Saladin, still pretty much on close tech levels, and usually a higher degree of "civilization" than northern Europe ( dark ages ) The Ottoman Empire lost tech ground, but I'd bet the real brakes on modern life came with the Wahhabi movement in the 18th century, when the call to return to a "pure" religion grew into repression of modern thought and attitudes. Pretty much a demand to return to the 8th century. I'd put my money on that as a reason for the medieval culture today.
But it is an imposed medieval culture in many places, ( Iran ) and a leftover one in others. A nod to the colonial powers and their "enlightenment" of the "benighted savages" as a cause for large parts of the world being a toilet, with the collapse of those empires leaving a power vacuum filled in the 20th century by another religion, marxism. ( a religion that has repeatedly brought modern countries into the 18th century, culturally. See Russia, the Balkans, etc.)
The religious fallout of the marxist crusade to eliminate all other faiths in the Soviet Union, China, etc. also has a lot to do with jehadist Islam erupting in the region. Contrast the marxist religious techniques of corrupting the Church in the America's ( south/central/northern urban ) by introducing liberation theology. ( the current president of the U.S.'s avowed faith )
But all theocratic rules tend to crush education and literature into narrow acceptable channels. The Library of Alexandria is reputed to have been burned by Romans, Christians, and Muslims, ( accidentally, to wipe out pagan temples, to focus on the Koran rather than earthly knowledge.) take your pick.
Historical book burnings with ample documentation have taken place this century, by fascists, communists, religious fanatics, and those who think Elvis is too sexy to be allowed to corrupt their children. ( oh, wait, that's records...)
...looks like a modern society on the outside,... lots of money lets you buy luxuries and technology you would be incapable of building yourself. Take the giant steel tube for snow skiing in the desert. It's paid for with western money, and built by western companies.
Also upper middle to rich folk in cities tend to be a bit more "sophisticated" in taste and dress than poorer folk in farm country. True in Omaha and Riyadh. |

Well, folk, I'm on vacation for 2 weeks camping. No web, no electricity. Off to the Pennsic Wars.
I seem to have missed that any leftist has presented a single constructive solution to the war on violent jihad. I'm sure without my sarcasm to irritate, the good and rational solutions to wordwide domination by evil religious fanatics will come forth. So let's hear from all the good ideas to end the war against religious dictatorship.
Or, if you prefer, the "war on terror" or struggle against theocracy, or if you must, "it's all Bush's fault"
Eagerly awaiting that constructive advice on how to keep America and the planet free.
