For those that don't know what these are... they are throttle locks (improvised cruise control) I want to still be able to use my Uly Handguards. Which one? Why? Experience? Reviews? |

I use the the early style Vista-Cruise #MCVIY-P for Yamaha single or dual cable. Its the first mod I do on my street bikes. Cheap about $23, looks good and works great. |

The Vista Cruise works great on the Uly. The only thing you have to adapt is sliding the brake fluid res. over 1/4 inch or so. If you have giant hands it may be a little tight, I am a very large guy and was fine. Here is a pict. I also have the handguard and bar end mirrors so no worries there. Did the 5k Homecoming trip with it and it was essential across the straight and flat states.

You guys like the Vista? I thought it was junk! Tried it on my Ss and it worked for about 30 sec before backing off no matter how i tried to adjust it. Just got the Throttlemiesters and love them, but i don't think they will work with hand guards! Not sure what the Kaoko is? (Message edited by americanmadexb on June 28, 2010) |

+ 1 for the Vista - works great on my Uly. The only downside is that it takes up a bit of the handgrip space... Couldn't live without it. |

>> I thought it was junk. The early style Vista-Cruise fits between the grip flange and the switch gear housing...unlike the later style Nwforester posted a pic of. No over arm mounting, foam around the grip, no funky clamp and no lose of grip length. |

I am doing an IBA this weekend and need to pick up a cruise control. What model vista cruiser is that in the picture. (Message edited by Slowride on June 28, 2010) |

I swear the BrakeAway destroys all those. Single best mod ever. Key feature: releases when you hit the brakes. Pricey, but good machining. |

Slowride, I'm pretty sure that that's the Universal one, like I have on mine. |

Ok, here is my opinion and my experience. I installed a Kaoko a couple of weeks before leaving for Homecoming. I chose the Kaoko because I have read some people's experience here on BadWeb who had issues getting the Vista Cruise to fit and work properly. I am not very mechanical and did not want any issues. I wanted something simple and easy to install that worked as advertised. I also wanted something that worked with my XT's handguards. The Kaoko met those criteria. I don't think the Throttlemeister works with the handguards. I bought mine from twistedthrottle.com with no issues. Now, for my impressions. The Kaoko is expensive ($150) for the little bit of plastic and metal that you get, but it fit flawlessly and worked exactly as advertised. I think I had mine installed in about two minutes. Easiest mod I have ever done. It looks factory installed as well. I am very happy with it. I personally don't like the way the Vista Cruise looks. You may feel differently. It does take some practice to get comfortable setting the lock. I don't care what anyone calls the products, none of them are cruise controls, they are simply throttle locks. They work by creating friction to overcome the throttle return spring. They don't work well in hilly areas and they take some adjusting to set at a speed you desire without acceleration or deceleration. Within those parameters, I have no complaints. |

running this vista on my 1125r http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=&L2=&L3=&L4=& item=TUC_07-4044 Did have to remove the grip and grind the lip on the throttle tube make my own bracket to lock it but it take nearly no room and works well. |

+3 on the brakeaway. I want one, but with my custom grips, I'm not sure what size to buy. I'll get measurements and repost if anyone can make suggestion. |

I have the Kaoko on my RS1200, Throttlemeister on my Hayabusa. I prefer the Throttlemeister as the set wheel Kaoko seems to irritate my hand after a while. Function-wise, they both work well. I think that you could use handguards with the Kaoko. (Message edited by Rich on June 29, 2010) |

Slowride, I did an IBA (Saddlesore 1000) Saturday before last. I don't have a throttle lock. Keep a loose grip on the grip and you'll do fine. From time to time just hold the throttle open using the heal of your hand and flex/stretch your fingers. I shattered my right wrist some years ago so if anyone was going to have a problem with the throttle hand, it would be me. |

Brake Away's site specifically states they are not compatible with any manufacturer's heated grips. Scratch that one. |

I saw a Brake-Away installed on a Warrior. It was a very nice piece and the chromed one he had installed was not cheap. If they had one for the Uly, that would be my choice. If anyone has pics, I would love to see them on the Uly! I installed the universal Vista Cruise shown above. It works just fine after adjustment. I do worry about losing that little nut on top. I still keep a throttle rocker on as well. There are times when I just like having that there for stretching the hand out. The cruise is for the long and straight. The rocker is for daily driving and neither is in the way. Good luck! |

I'm afraid I've never understood the point of a "Throttle Rocker" myself. The weight of my hand is enough to hold the throttle in position without any big plastic flap in place. And living in New York, I've heard enough horror stories of big-handed people applying throttle when they didn't want to upon hitting bumpy patches of road thanks to those things. |

Oh I agree entirely, I just threw the idea in as a possible alternative. As a truck driver I LOVE cruise control, as a biker I don't have a lot of use for it. If my hand is so tired it can't hold the throttle & be ready to grab the brake, my arse has probably already fallen off & it's time to go byebyes in a nice hotel bed. |

I use cruise control (REAL cruise control, not a throttle lock) all the time on my K1200LT for long trips. It helps me avoid speeding tickets. |

Installed a vista Cruse on the Uly before doing a recent 1600 mile ride, plus I use a throttle rocker. My best day was a little over 750 miles. Both helped with the right hand. the vista cruse was a 10 min install |

Excellent feedback... Thank you, I think I am going to pick up the Vista Cruise for this IBA on Saturday. I just realized I had a Throttle Rocker sitting on my work bench, so I will throw that on too. I will most likely go with the Kaoko before Buelltoberfest. That run will be just shy of 1k miles from Texas for me. |

I picked up the Universal Vita Cruise yesterday and got it mounted up. I am not sure I like the amount of Grip it takes up, but it does work and keeps me at a steady speed when locked. NWforester, I took the little plastic spacer that comes with it and used my dremel took to cut it in half. I put it in the small slot between the mount bar and the lock, right where you see the gap on yours with the screw showing through. I noticed the lock would bend toward the left when locked without the spacer there. |

These were discontinued years ago due to a patent infringement suit but are back on the market in the original one piece form. Not a throttle lock per sei but the best bang for the buck IMHO. They can be used in conjunction with any throttle lock or cruise control. http://throttlerocker.com/model-choices.html Some folks use an appropriate sized o-ring between the grip end and housing also. Or if you can find one the Audiovox CCS-100 cruise control is easily adapted to bikes. I have 3 different locks on one bike and find the vista used most. |
