New glass pack. Inlet was cracked on the old one.Pretty simple, just welded a chrome tip on a blank glass pack. Adapted an XB kick stand.(Not painted yet) Jay's was too short and it was iffy, tipsy. M6 was removed and replaced with the upgraded Buell adjuster........which led to polishing the primary cover. Have a new set of PM wheels/Pilot Roads to throw on it and need to replace the intake seal whilst I figure it why the carb started running over. Hope to have it done by the 4th! |

Thanks Grumpy.............but the frame/rear peg mounts were cut off and smoothed out before the frame was nickel plated. The "shiny" has deteriorated from sitting in an unheated garage in Oklahoma... condensation. Jay Hawley did all the hard work.I'm just touching it up. |

Kick stand done, works perfect. Muffler done.....polished it's galvanized coating. Rear PM is on....looks good. Rear rotor is dished/warped.New one coming from American Sport Bike. Front wheel is a little more tricky. 6 pot caliper won't clear the wheel to come off unless I loosen the rotor...even with the pads removed it won't come out.

Kinda "frosty"........ A little bit of buffing wheel later....and neart pristine. Cleaned the lower legs with Mothers and a tooth brush size stainless wire brush.Pretty easy task! Earlier today. Replacing the intake seals................Jay didn't use any anti seize on the intake clamp bolts. Heat, hammer and chisel to get them loose. Both carb side clamp rings cracked. They will work till I get new ones. Oops, I dropped one new bolt into the anti seize bottle. That made a goopy mess, getting it out. Took carb apart and found nothing that made it flood over. Cleaned it and installed an in line filter. Course,it ran over when I turned the gas on.....WTF? Must have picked up a bit of crud out of the fuel line, behind the filter. Started it up and all was then fine. Starts, idles and RUNS terrific.................regardless that it pings when gouging it. Probably way old stale gas that has an octane rating on 80.. Fresh premium tomorrow should take care of that. Needs a new tail light bulb, some more minor detailing and a set of traction grips that I got for cheap last Winter. Fun to work on. Easy to work on... and I get to do it again when the American Sport Bike rear rotor comes in and when I find some intake clamp rings........ (Message edited by just_ziptab on July 03, 2010) |
