If one listens to the lyrics it is an odd choice to pair with the "inspiring" product plug.
Is that where the former HD marketing head went? Goes right along with "Do you succumb to fear and doubt, or do you seize the throttle and give it a fearless twist forward"
you can count on one hand the yuppy that is gonna take that out in the woods and stump hump with it.... well their teenage kids might Its a glorified stationwagon. Feel better cuz it has 'offroad' capability, it will rarely see dirt.
While I like the Jeep commercial it doesn't make enough of an impression to remember what it was about. When I clicked the play button on the first entry to this thread I knew I'd seen the commercial no less than a dozen times, but didn't have a clue what it was about.
A commercial is only effective if it leaves an impression after viewing a couple of times.
This one does not. Try it sometime. See if you remember what a commercial is peddling after just 5 seconds. If you can't recall although you've seen the spot repeatedly, it's missed the mark.
I liked the Jeep add when I saw it on TV... it had my undivided attention. Until I saw that it was for the Grand Cherokee.
Then I thought "your main problem with that add, and the Grand Cherokee, is that too many people have owned Grand Cherokee's, and know that its unreliability is matched only by its expense." Then I remembered (maybe wrongly) that the Grand Cherokee was built in Austria.
So then the whole add got turned into a hollow Harleyesque "Marketing will sell their souls and tell any lie and be a poser to try and salvage a product that has losts it's way". And kinda went sour.
IMHO Chrysler's quality plummeted after the Daimler takeover. Since their return to the US, they really were improving QC ( I had friends over at Dodge ) and the vehicles, though very uglyfied by the Germans, were getting much better. Not sure how they are doing under Fiat/Obama.
Of course slick, if you really want to dump on the thing, mention that an estimated 10,000 Irish immigrants died on the construction of the trans-continental railway and that Kea make comparable vehicles a lot cheaper.
Then there's the eco-terrorist angle.
Personally I'd like an early model Cherokee in good order.
