you live down town in an urban city... and you are worried about motorcycle noise because of quality of life ?.... If you were really worried about quality of life, you probably wouldnt be living down town. F-tards |

I have to listen to open pipe Harley blast through my suburban neighborhood early morning or late at night frequently. Many of the bike are obnoxiously loud and it will only be a matter of time before this happens in more places. I have been embarrassed many times when sitting in an out door restaurant (with riding gear) when a group of the wide open revers sit a traffic light or cruise by. Like it or not, we are judged by the actions of others and we will loose our rights because of them. There is a big effort in Chicago because of all of the complaints by people living in the high rises because of the excessive noise mainly from the bikes. This is not only a HD issue, I recently was siting inside a restaurant when a group of extended swing arm sport biker riders sat outside the restaurant and revved the bikes for no reason other than to make noise. It was ridiculous and you could see the look on the faces of many in the restaurant when it was going on. Maybe I am getting older and notice it more. My exhaust is stock because I do not like the noise when I ride long distances. Don't get me wrong, I like the sound of a reasonable after market pipe and those that act responsibly. I have had a similar thing happen to mountain bike riding areas in the forrest preserves around Chicago. A minority of people would ride on trails closed to bikes and ultimately the entire areas would get closed to mountain bikes. Or they would ride on trails after rain and tear up the trails once again resulting in closure. Bikers are a minority. Many non-bikers I know comment frequently about load bikes. This will lead to more restrictions. |

I had an experience that sums this up last night coming home from meeting my Bueller buddies in Orlando. I was nearly home and passing through Cocoa Village. It's a quiet, quaint shopping area with lots of boutiques and restaurants (most of which have outdoor seating in some capacity). While crossing US 1 entering the village there were four tools ahead of me on their tricked out rice burners. At every stop light they'd rev the hell out of the engines creating much more noise than I've heard out of most HD's. It was obnoxious and totally uncalled for. One member of their group was clearly a novice rider and it scared the hell out of me to be behind him. Once clear of the village and crossing the bridge onto Merritt Island I blew by them and left them in the dust. All I could think of was what douche bags they were. But, they sure looked and sounded cool with all their neon and performance pipes. |

T'was only a matter of time guys Here in europe we have had pretty stringent noise laws for many years and it has always amazed me just how loud most US made aftermarket pipes are (most are even too loud for race/track use over here!). If the motorcycle community/market doesn't police itself and stop bikes being too anti social and loud then you can bet your bottom dollar that someone else will do it for us, and they certainly won't be as sympathetic to our cause as we would be oursleves. |

I did the loud pipe thing for a while... it was fun, but I couldn't get past the "the bottom line here is that I am just being rude" part of it. I like pizza. Pizza is good. But I don't make *you* eat Pizza because *I* like it. I took off my loud pipe, went back to stock, and have never been happier. There is a fine line... The supertrapp on the M2 didn't actually seem that loud, even with most of the disks in (I think I was running 13 or something). And the bike ran a lot better with it on there. But the 9sx ran the same with and without the loud pipe, and the loud pipe was... well... really loud. Group rides, being right behind and beside somebody with straight pipes in a proper riding formation, gets really annoying after about 4 hours as well. I wear earplugs for a long bomb down the interstate, but it would be nice to not have to wear them for a nice ride in the country. |

My neighbor has a Vulcan 900 cruiser, with a 4 or 5" Big Rig looking pipe on it. It is so obnoxiously loud that I refuse to ride with Him. He has to constantly check to see if it's still there by crankin'. Much, much louder than My Harley with a V/H Pro Pipe Policing ourselves did not work. Now it will be the fines that quiet things down. |

Most people suck and are just plain stupid ! How many of the "nutsack" hitch owners have straight pipes or obnoxiously loud exhausts ? |

I went to a Bike Night tonight, which is in front of a State Police Sub-Station, but that did not deter the Squids and Fags from doing their thing.Wheelies, Burn-outs, and revving as though there were no one around. The Troopers let it slide, but I'll bet it gets thrown into a little black book for future reference at a Town meeting when it is decided to no longer allow Bike night. |

I was eating ice cream when about 5 cars at a gas station decided to blow their horn repeatedly for no reason outlaw horns, and dam locus every 5 years are so lould I can't sleep outlaw them, kids who cry and scream and bother me lock em up, people with long hair come across as un law abiding citizens lock them up, people who are old should not drive do to safety reasons take away their license, people who are gay go against my traditional values hang them, alcohol, cigarettes, pills, homeless people, drugs, chocolate, coffee, chips, soda pop, have no value in society let's just kill everyone that is connected to them. You city folk make me sick! People who live in big communities have a control problem it starts off as young kid you have to be dressed nice, hair can't be messed up, nice shoes and the list goes on and on WTF is wrong with you city folk? I want it now I want it all. I bet you people who complain about sagging pants and dress codes are the same people who complain about noise. You let the law take away and away and away before you know it your a communist community which spreads like a STD. |

the "throttle jockeys" do tend to get annoying, there are a few that live in my neighborhood, (and they are usually Sr NCO's with a god complex, but that's a different story) i feel that if people in cars would be more observant and watch for motorcycles there wouldn't be such a need for obnoxiously loud pipes, especially in a city setting. but then again on the other had, why are these people living downtown and complaining about noise, if they want peace and quiet, move to where there is not a whole lot of anything, but im sure they would find something to piss and moan about with that too. |

The "kids" across the street run their 4 wheelers around at 3-4am. Loud pipe hog rider 2 houses down has to rev every time he passes my...every house, anytime, day or night. ( he needs to tune his carb. One of these days I'll go over with my tool box and insist. Or maybe not, I don't think he could handle actual throttle response...) You know the middle of nowhere? I'm off to the side. My neighbor with the hockey kids playing in their side yard rink all night long complain about the loud hog guy and the 4 wheeler guy. ( the rink is on the side by my living room....) The neighbor also asked me real nice to tell him before I fire off fireworks, since it freaks his dog. ( I keep waiting to have to shoot a coyote off his stupid dog. If he's lucky. ) The nice folk at the Autistic Children center behind me come out for the fireworks. The kids like it too. Apparently I'm the only one who doesn't complain about the noise the kids make. Funny part is, even though the Cyclone CAN be louder than most of this, I ride mellow until it's warmed up, and kind of putt it on home that last mile, just to be polite. The neighbor on the side away from the Bike shed didn't even know I had a bike until I told him. While he was complaining about the loud hog guy. "YOU have a bike?" "Sure, It's a Buell. I rode it yesterday, didn't you notice?" Blank stare. I really have to get that bozo's carb tuned. It's annoying when a machine doesn't run right. Oh, and loud pipes lead to loss of freedom. There's too many folk that complain. |

"I feel that if people in cars would be more observant and watch for motorcycles there wouldn't be such a need for obnoxiously loud pipes, especially in a city setting." I thought the 'Loud pipes saves lives' thing was done... Cagers don't complain about not hearing bikes, they complain that they can't see them. |

Loud pipes do not save lives. They do make people angry. I once saw a theory published in Motorcyclist magazine that stated people who ride around with loud pipes didn't get any attention when they were a young child. Now they use the loud pipes so that you and I will pay attention to them. I am a lifelong motorcyclist and I do subscribe to that theory. |

If your pipes faced forward, they might actually help get you noticed before the car runs you down. But I doubt it. The same psychological factors that make the nice lady/guy in the car not see you and turn in front of you, despite what you would swear was eye contact, apply to noise too. You just don't exist in their little self aware universe. They don't ride. No one they really know rides. They have an abstract idea that there is such a thing as a motorcycle, if only because the guys South Park made fun of roared by and annoyed them, but it has no hooks/switches/reference in the brain for the senses to notify the ( barely ) awake mind. I'm still trying to decide if loud pipes work on deer. I'm always riding through herds where I live. Studded Snow tires work. Pipes? Not sure. I'm experimenting. |
