I listened to it too... I heard "black holes"... guess my hearing is fine. That is ridiculous though. I didn't think it was making fun of "blackness" as she quoted, but hey what do I know. |

If the card has a "space" theme how in the hell could you throw black hoes into it? NAACP = agitators and aggravators. I guess they needed some publicity... Jeez! |

"Knickers! I HATE KNICKERS! Knickers are stupid and worthless! All this country's problems are because of knickers! I'd rather die than see my daughter with dirty knickers! F*CK KNICKERS!!!" Would you feel comfortable yelling that aloud on a crowded sidewalk in Compton? If not, why? After all, you're just yelling about underpants... (Message edited by buellkowski on June 11, 2010) |

I'd let them sue (& lose) before I pulled the cards. Thats just plain ridiculous, the NAACP are doing their own credibility no favours at all. It couldn't happen here the law wouldn't allow it under the French constitution. |

Cry baby azz "knickers" WTF is right! Some people are so ignorant to think that these innocent little cards have some subliminal message about racism. It's almost because racism is completely gone that people think of this chit. Like a person who stays in an abusive relationship knowing they can get out. It's ridiculous. Anyway - I love those cards! They are funny as hell and the kids love em to. They have about 20 different cards from these guys and they would never and have never said "Daddy, i think this cards is racist" |

"Knickers! I HATE KNICKERS! Knickers are stupid and worthless! All this country's problems are because of knickers! I'd rather die than see my daughter with dirty knickers! F*CK KNICKERS!!!" I wouldn't be comfortable yelling that anywhere. Besides the two situations are not analogous. In a space themed graduation card, there is no racist context. Standing on the street yelling that you hate 'knickers' bring absolutely no context to the party. Now, if you were Tiger Woods, and said you hated knickers, there would be context. He really does hate them, and refuses to wear them on the golf course. When I say knickers, I don't mean underwear, I mean those short golf pants that used to be all the rage before Tiger made it OK to not dress like an idiot on the golf course. |

"It's almost because racism is completely gone that people think of this chit. " I respectfully disagree. Racism is alive and well in America. It's just not as rampant as it used to be. This particular example however is absolutely NOT racism on the part of Hallmark, but IS on the part of the NAACP. |

I guess some people just hear what they want to hear!?!? Even after listening to the clip and saying the "ho" word in my head at that point, it still doesn't sound like the card says it! |

+1 Hootowl. Racism definitely exists; however, this card was a poor example chosen by the NAACP. It's unfortunate that Hallmark is now pulling the cards from store shelves and losing revenue because this crazy organization. |

If the title offends please change it. I thought it was perfectly descriptive of the contents and not in and of itself offensive. |

The naacp ARE the racist. They were the ones to bring the race card in to a space party? It's not Hallmark's fault they call their girl friends Black Holes. |

Isn't the NAACP the group that determines which black people are the "right" black people and which ones are the "uncle toms" and "oreos"? Looks to me that with a black President the NAACP has a lot of time on their hands. |

Let's be clear here. Those funky looking pants worn by golfers such as Payne Stewart are known as Plus fours. The length being knickers (knee length) plus four inches. "Plus fours! I hate Plus fours... Yep. That sounds almost as silly Buellkowski's rant about knickers. You'd sound pretty stupid yelling either on a street corner. Racist? No. G |

It comes down to intent of the speaker vs. perception of the listener. Perception isn't always fair and intent isn't always benign. |

That's the stupidest thing I've seen in a long time. I can't believe those people standing around nodding their heads together... The card's intent is obvious and for the representatives of the NAACP to even press the issue makes them look pretty foolish in my eyes. Here's a link to the local story showing the cards themselves: http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/loc al/los_angeles&id=7475737 I for one think racism is abhorrent, I prefer to judge a man by his actions. The graduation card in this story has nothing to do with racism. The NAACP is grasping at straws and trying to make something out of nothing in this case. I also agree with others wh've said they (the NAACP) are racist[in this case any way]. Personally, I think they should apologize to Hallmark. |

When your livelihood is finding Boogymen, don't be surprised when you see them under every bed. There is no way to completely "stamp out" racism. Oddly, though, the "market" for racism avenger is in attacking white racism only. I don't see the NAACP out protesting Jeremiah Wright's church. |

Is anyone surprised that an organization that started to combat real racism gets taken over in time by people who now need racism to justify their salaries? While there certainly still is racism in the U.S., we have got at least to the point where most media trumpeted racism is fake for the purposes of political gain, or lining the pockets of the racism industry. The NAA(L)CP is a leader in that industry, and has to create that which they cannot easily find. Or refuse to acknowledge because it is a political ally that is racist, and realpolitic tells you to keep the ally, his money and power over principal. Now, I personally believe we are less racist than many places, I also think we are a little behind England and Canada in our tolerance for others. They deserve credit where it is due, and we need to be better than we are. I won't complain here about those who are far worse than us, since that would be childish. Although that argument is often used, "well, we aren't as bad as they are" it's just an excuse. Rationalizing that you are better than another does not mean you shouldn't be better than you are. In politics, the phrase "the Republicans (or Democrats ) do X so we shouldn't be penalized for doing X" is at heart, an immature Bull crap attitude, and anyone using that line of illogic justification for evil or carelessness should be called on it, and their excuse rejected. Grow up A$$holes. |

Unchecked racists at the NAACP? Why don't they take checks? Are they cash only, or do they accept Visa, Mastercard and Discover? And what about American Express? If they're un-American, they probably won't take it. Screwy; ain't they? |

There are currently 38 black conservative candidates running for office in the November elections. I can't express how excited I am to see this! Michael Williams in Texas is a superstar! Is is NOT supported by the NAACP, and he will NOT be invited to be part of the Congressional Black Caucus. That is shameful. Instead, we have an organization seeking to put an end to black holes in greeting cards. |
