Anyone seen the ad for this yet? It's a real badass. I can't wait to get one. In the meantime, OS4 will let me do multitasking and asthetic changes that I could only do before with a jailbreak. Pretty much everything I liked about my jailbreak is available in the new OS4. And the iPhone 4 has a better processor, 5mpxl camera with camera flash, also frontside camera, HD video recording/editing within the phone, multitasking, massively better (960x640) resolution screen, video calling, 3-axis gyro, better battery life, noise cancelling mic, etc. |

I have a few issues still, that won't allow me to jump ship just yet: 1) AT&T 2) not 4G 3) iPhone OS truly lacks features in today's marketplace. It needs a full overhaul. 4) Not real multitasking It looks pretty tho. |

Verizon apparently will be picking up the iPhone swagger in 2012. They can't call it an iPhone but it will be exactly that. I'm with Andy though with the marketplace deal. For me in my business it would work fine but isn't practical. HTC is suppose to be coming out with something that will blow the iPhone out of the water...so I heard. |

We've heard that about every touch smartphone so far, and I haven't seen it yet. In other parts of the country, AT&T may be an issue but here they have better service than Verizon. Also, I have not seen any OS out there easier to use than iOS, especially iOS4, which I'll be installing this afternoon hopefully. And I don't see how the multitasking feature on iOS4 is not "real" multitasking. From what I've seen, it works just as i'd need/expect it to. What features do you say it lacks in today's marketplace, save flash? |

Also, lack of 4G doesn't bother me as it'll be at LEAST a year or two before Amarillo sees 4G of any kind anyway. |

I had Verizon for about 5 years before switching to AT&T a few years back. In my experience, the network and coverage is basically the exact same for both providers. While not a big fan of Apple, the iphone 3G is by far and away the best phone I have ever owned. None of the smart phones I had before the iphone even compared. I don't have any experience with the android OS or any of it's phones though. My contract is up shortly so its probably time to do some looking. I'm not sure how much 4G coverage ANY provider has in the Seattle area yet so having 4G may not even be an issue for me. The differences between Verizon and AT&T is that you will pay a premium for Verizon & Verizon has total SHIT customer support/service. Last time I checked, which was admittedly about 2 years ago, it didn't matter if it was voice or data, Verizon was more expensive....forget about any type of family plan. If I have an issue with AT&T it gets resolved quickly. With Verizon it was like pulling teeth & it was always my fault. A more recent experience with wonderful Verizon customer support is my parents. Their phones worked fine at their house for a year or so and all of a sudden they get no reception at home. They live in the middle of bald, flat, BFE SD so it's not like a new highrise went up and is blocking the signal. The only thing Verizon will do is come install a "signal booster" in their house for the low, low price of $200...take it or leave it. I personally hate Verizon and will never go back. Sprint is an option though. I do hate the fact you have to go through itunes to do anything on the iphone but I have heard the Verizon marketplace sucks as well. |

Off topic, does anyone know if Apple succesfully purchased ARM manufacturing? If they did, it'll be hard for any smartphone to compete, as most all of them use ARM chips. |

A quick google on my droid pops this up Ross...Figured it'd be faster than your iphone as you not only had time to post this message, but had time to think of the question...HAHA http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1602331/a pple-arm |

I actually just read about it, right after posting. I had a blonde moment and asked the question first. No buy-out of ARM, but they did buy Intrisity, which I think will turn out well. |

I've been keeping an eye on the Droid Incredible, which looks really sharp. However, the new iPhone looks really sharp as well. My contract is up in Dec so we'll see what I end up with. |

Do some reading of their version of multi-tasking...it's not really multi tasking, it merely is designed to allow an app to finish up what it is doing in the background when you switch to a new app, then kills it. Web OS allows me to run 10-12 apps at once, fast switch between etc....just like on a normal computer. The OS is nice, but it is completely lacking in customizability and features. It definitely has the App store going for it tho, but take that away and it's quite lame! On top of the horrible AT&T service here in Minneapolis, there is the issue of horrible AT&T pricing! We currently have 5 phones on Sprint (who has great service in Minneapolis....I understand that's not the case everywhere...) with 1500 shared min, unlim nights and weekends, unlim mobil-mobile (on ANY network...that's like 90% of our calls!), unlim texting, unlim data on all phones...for $150/month. When we made this move, the closest I could get with AT&T was about $370/month! It does look pretty tho. |

If your contract is up anytime in 2010, AT&T will give you the full discounted price for the iPhone 4, $199 for the 16g unit. |

some people will just never be happy. This phone is leaps and bounds above any other phone in every way and still it is not good enough. how many phones do you really know that you can have a video call with?... thats what I thought. Andy you should read up on it some more actually because that is not what it does at all. if you go from one program to another it will be right were you left it. It does not kill anything it does however make it to were that program that is running in the back ground does not use as much resources to save the battery that is all. |

"how many phones do you really know that you can have a video call with?" 1. Unless you're calling another iPhone, it's useless. 2. How often do you really want to see the person your chatting on the phone with? Hard to take a dump that way. And women would have to put on their makeup before answering the phone. 3. Given the growing popularity of texting over regular phone calls, video chat is a step in the wrong direction. 4. Speaking of texting, how do you think video calls will affect drivers? It's a nifty feature that I expect serves more of a marketing purpose than a practicality purpose. Otherwise we'd all have video phones at home wouldn't we? ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on June 08, 2010) |

I like the video calling feature. I don't like that you can only talk to other iPhone 4's with it. Nobody has made mention (that I have seen) about the fact that AT&T is no longer offering unlimited data plans. Seems a bit contradictory to keep offering more data hungry smart phones and then take away the unlimited data. It's yet another jack move by the network that struggles to keep up with demand on a substandard infrastructure. The same people who bought all those iPads will be the first ones preordering and standing in line for these new phones, which are much improved but still fall short of the goal in my opinion. Not saying it's a bad phone... just not good enough for me. I'm very happy with my Droid. It does exactly everything I want with only one exception, and it's an easy pill to swallow in light of all else that it does so well. With the recent release of Android 2.2 roms, my Flash player is finally working. Hulu and Netflix anyone? |

I'm sorry, but they are still leaps and bounds behind everyone else in terms of functionality.

My old Nokia N800 had a camera that can be rotated and used for video chats. The only issue was finding someone else with a device that supports video chat. It works great to talk to someone that has skype with a webcam. |

Froggy, we get it, you don't like apple. Iphone 4 could do everything that every other smart phone does on the planet, be the size of a credit card and cost $19.99 and you'd have a problem with it. It's a matter of what you're looking for. You like to sit in your basement tinkering with this stuff. Me, I want it to do what it's supposed when it's supposed to, so I can go out and talk to girls and stuff. My iphones have always done that. They have been the most reliable devices I've owned, and much more user friendly than windows mobile or windows on my pc for that matter. |

Blf hit the nail on the head. The iPhone has always been easier to do 99% of its functions than any other device available. Just because the technology to do something has been out a while, doesn't mean that the majority of people will know how to use it. Apple just made it easier for 99% of the people to do 90% of what the techies do on a regular basis, which is why is has outsold all the other competitors. |

Bad, this has nothing to do with my opinion on Apple, I am simply stating facts. The iPhone can't do half the things any other phone can due to the Apple Nazi's controlling it, and that will never change. It is funny how Apple can get away with all the anticompetitive practices that would get Microsoft in hot water. Don't give me the reliability crap, as Apple devices have a higher defect and return rate than their competitors. |

It's not crap, it's been MY experience. I didn't really mean physical reliability, but functional reliability. In both regards, my iphones have been, as Chevy woulda said back in the day, "Like a Rock". |

"how many phones do you really know that you can have a video call with?" The new HTC EVO that was just release will. I've had few different smart phones and I have to say that an HTC phone is simply the best. I've had HTC phones with Windows in the past and now have one that is Android based. My HTC Hero kicks major ass!! I'll be getting the new EVO soon, just waiting for my brother-in-law to buy my Hero. |

If it was 5 years ago I would say that AT&T service in MPLS is questionable, not now though. I cannot remember the last time I had a service issue. Even when I go outstate, their service has greatly improved over the last 2 years. Phelan - 100% agree with being user friendly. I couldn't remember if my 3g came with an operator manual, never used it. Well, it did. It is about 20 pages long. If I recall, my Moto Razr manual was 75 - 100 pages. |

I'll admit I'm ignorant to the Android platform, in that I've never used it. However, I'm glad it's doing well. Competition is a good thing, it makes all the companies try to do better than the next, and the consumer benefits, just like motorcycles. |

Just got a smartphone, Samsung Reality, its ok for my purposes. How much megabyte usage can I expect this site to use up? Only wanted the 25 MB plan didn't think I would use it much? thanks in advance.... |

Does anyone really understand what 3G / 4G is? It has NOTHING to do with any "measurement" of speed. Sprint's 4G is NOT faster than AT&T's 3G. The "G" stands for "Generation". It is AT&T's 3rd Generation of their network. Same with Verizon's 3rd Generation of THEIR network. In all reality, AT&T's network is actually faster than Verizon's. As far as the OS, Apple's systems are locked down, reliable, and straight forward. If you want to do some crazy tinkering then go for the Droid. The Android system is a MUCH better choice for someone who is truly tech-savvy. But I am an Apple fan and believe in the systems in place that the Apps will work. Yes, you always come across a few glitches in many programs, but when is the last time that an Apple system TRULY crashed from any virus..... Nothing since the release of OSX. |

@ Andy, The multitasking works like it SHOULD. when going to a different App, it saves the memory state of the previous App and writes it to the storage memory, then opens the running memory for the new App. This keeps that A4 processor running speedy |
