I like my iMac. I have had it for three years. In that time I have run into one problem with it. It decided it didn't want to surf the web very well. The machine was out of warranty, but I took it to the Mac store. They said it was a hard drive problem that was a known issue with some iMacs and put a new hard drive in it for free. They also copied all my data and software onto the new drive for me, also for free.
I know Macs aren't perfect. They certainly cost more. But as long as I can afford one, I'll be using a Mac. I have PCs at work and my wife has a PC at home and we have had way more problems with them. YMMV.
Amazing what could be done with a half or a full megabyte of RAM back then. At one time code and program writers took pride in minimizing the number of bytes used to perform a function. These days billions of bytes of disc space are wasted because huge amounts "canned" code are incorporated into programs because they contain a few basic code lines needed for a program function. Like most things, fewer parts means fewer problems.
When I was a co op, they told me to go pick up the Mod Comp Disk Packs and find the empty ones (which were, of course, lighter, as they didn't have any 1's on them yet).
To my credit, I didn't fall for it, but others did.
