Good idea. I've been thinking about doing something like that for the garden. We already recycle and compost but that is a good set up for what, 110 gals? I hope those bottom braces can hold the weight. |

I hope those bottom braces can hold the weight and the plumbing... 880 lbs of water trying to get out... but that's what makes it fun! Stand back during the first rain..... LOL |

Awesome job, BUT won't the rain ITSELF water your garden?! Speaking of bongs... Let me answer your question with a question. Does it rain everyday? |

We have 1 barrel just like that, and I think you will be surprised how fast they fill up. It took 3 rains of less than 1/2 inch total each time to fill ours. I figure I'm taking about 1/8th the surface area of the roof that gets routed through the gutters to the barrel. We got our barrel from the Jelly Belly factory in Kenosha. mmmmmmmmm, jellybeans....... |

What a great set-up, Nice Job! The treated lumber will hold up well and looks to be plenty stout. As somewhat of an aside, some birdbrain left what appears to be some kinda Harley motor on the bench in the back. With a little bit of work and a rigid frame you could whip up a real nice chopper out of that. I hear they handle better than those Buell bikes. Al |

One question that may save a summer's crops. Is that set up in the shade? Them thar darker colored barrls' will warm up sum watta. Could cause a major out break of wilted plants. White paint or a white cover might help.....just sayin'.... |

spidey, My neighbor made up one of those. His works very well for watering the garden. You are going to need a bigger overflow drain however. You'll be amayzed how fast the 55ers will fill up even in a mild to moderate rain. |

If I need any extra water (a rare thing in these parts) I have a 40 foot deep well I can drop the pump into. |

yeah I'm a little worried about that, I have a replacement plan if the 1" pipe is not enough... |

Do it now before it rains, you're filling with what looks like about a 4 inch pipe which is around 15 times bigger than your overflow. Pipe section area,= radius of pipe squared x 3.142 The flow rate differential will be even greater. |
