So I am about done with my MBA (4 months) And I am staring at the launch of a new product/service/website. Do I need to trademark, patent, copywrite or all of the above for look feel operation of new said product and web portal ? I have a biz dev class my last quarter, but I want to get a jump on things, get domain name locked, design sight, etc. anyone got some advice? I know this a great place for entrepreneurs and out of the box thinkers, so I appreciate your input. |

Grab the domain name while you can, put up an under construction web page to meet requirements and work on the rest later. You can do it for $10 a month plus like $3 for three years of a domain name at Network Solutions when you combine hosting and name registration. Places like GoDaddy might be cheaper but I'm not familiar with their services. SInce this is a business, make sure you register it as such. Also DO NOT go for a .org, those are supposed to be non-profit/not for profit domains and I personally will not buy anything from an abuser and normally send hate mail to them. Yes you must actually point that domain somewhere or it is called squatting and it could be taken from you. You can point it towards anything as long as there is real content there, under construction will buy some time but won't be tolerated forever. A future home of XXXX will get you a long way and a simple page will be permanent if it has real content. Check the ICANN rules to be sure. |

Be aware that many web people will promise the sky and deliver dirt! It disgusts me when I have to deal with the web people at work and I know more than they do, and they get paid twice what I do. I don't know a lot about creating things for the web, so you can see my issue. In short, no I would not be willing to take n your job, or really any other web page creation job at this time, I just do not know enough to handle it. |

I have known my web dev guy since we were riding BMX bikes together, and sneaking out in the middle of the night to go play Pac Man, Galatica, or Pole Position at the 7-11. \ plus I trust him not to take the idea and run with it himself. |
