I just love reading quotes like "Built to press the limits" and "For expert riders only" in the description of a 90hp 550lb bike. Oh my friggin god it's short by 10hp on an XB. Not everyone gives a crap. Yeah, it's heavy, but again bit everyone cares. This bike is directed squarely at people who care about performance. That's this bikes sole purpose. I think EVERYONE looking at this bike will care... otherwise they wouldn't be looking at this bike. |

I don't hate the XR1200 as a bike. The problem is that i would have to immediately spend $5,000 to turn it into the bike I really want. At $17,000, I could buy a hell of a bike right out of the gate. |

I'm with you Jaimec, I've ridden the Bandit 1250 a few times. It makes very nice mixture of hp and torque. |

And $13,887.83 in 2010 will darn near buy you a real championship winning race bike...

Nice road bike. It will suit a lot of non-stick-up-their-arse-about-the-closure-of-Buell riders nicely. Most riders I know don't care that much about our plight. They are sorry about it, but it's a corporation discontinuing a product to them. Perspective and all that. I think if you get past the (positive or negative) hyperbole it's a pleasant enough road bike. I would rather do a day ride on it than a Bandit 1250. It goes pretty much like a Buell till it runs out of ground clearance. FWIW Several of the Journos I travel with rate the XR1200X as 'the best Harley ever'. If I had a 3,000 mile tour in mind - I'd prefer the Suzuki any day. (Message edited by danger_dave on June 04, 2010) |

We belittle this bike because a tuber could run circles around it, And a 10 year old Corvette will run circles around brand new RX-8... what's your point. They're apples and oranges, not the same, not designed to compete with one another. This bike isn't targeted at people who would have bought a Buell - if it were, they would have slapped an HD sticker on an orange XB12. This bike is directed squarely at people who care about performance. That's this bikes sole purpose. I think EVERYONE looking at this bike will care... Sole purpose... don't kid yourself. Like any Harley, this bike is also about style (love it or hate it). For a Harley and for a sporting standard, this bike more than delivers in the performance department, and I guarantee that not everyone that buys one cares about it. It will suit a lot of non-stick-up-their-arse-about-the-closure-of-Buell riders nicely. Dave, I think you've nailed it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in love with Harley at this point by any means, but it goes far beyond the Buell closure - but if we're all going to call a spade a spade when things go wrong, we should also be mature and fair enough to say, "Hey, that's an okay bike, just not for me" instead of preaching that everything HD does is dumb, ugly, slow and junk. Here's a friendly experiment: Let's say that, for the sake of argument, the XR1200X was making 120hp, weighed 380lbs, came with 17-inch wheels and better suspension than an XB, and worked some kind of chassis geometry magic to outhandle any Buell. My guess is you'd all still be pissed, claiming they ripped off Buell, why couldn't they put this money into Buell instead, yadda yadda. If Harley wanted a bike to compete squarely with a Buell, they would have kept Buell around. I mean, you guys do realize that your arguments come across just the same as if you were all pissed off and let down because the turbo'd Lincoln MK-S can't keep up with a Porsche 911. Wheels, tires, exhaust, body work, suspension, body work, engine work, paint. Beyond that, the bike is pretty much perfect (for someone else). |

Wheels, tires, exhaust, body work, suspension, body work, engine work, paint Which is what most XR1200 owners do anyway. Like most H-D's (and Buells for that matter) the bike you leave the showroom with is just the basis for whatever you want to do with it. Most Xr1200 owners aren't looking for a performance bike as such (otherwise they would have gone to Kawasaki/Suzuki/Yamaha/ANOther instead) but for a retro styled bike that will hustle when it has to. |

The (butt ugly) Exhaust I can see changing thanks to the EPA hurts more than helps. Is there a New Bike Any of you would Purchase and leave completely stock including the Exhaust? Be honest! I don’t see a problem with the rest of the bike Unless your Competing at a World Super Bike Event. I believe a competitive World Super Bike Motorcycle would cost you a little more than $17000.00. As far as Performance Nobody needs to go faster than 120mph on public Streets and Roads. As far as Body Work that is no different than buying a piece or chrome to put on your Harley it is just personal preference |

Yes, one is on my CR, the other is sitting on the shelf. Oh and the Blast had its bodywork replaced with other Blast OEM plastics, so technically it isn't factory stock anymore. |

If I tried hard enough I was able to smoke the back tire on my YSR50. You really had to try, but you could do it. If someone gave it to me, I'd take it out for a spin and maybe even keep it, not too many HD bikes that I would keep because they just do not appeal to me. |

I'd consider it, although I'd also consider a Kawi Z1000, a Zuki 1250S and SpeedTriple. |

FWIW Several of the Journos I travel with rate the XR1200X as 'the best Harley ever'. this bike sucks, imo. there's certainly nothing much new about it. (even if it weren't already on the world market for a year.) sure, inwerted front forks are nice. but does it even matter on a 562lb fatty? there's way too many similarly priced bikes from europe & japan to list, that i'd rather ride (and be seen on), than this overweight so-so handling pig. but, i agree w/the quote above - it likely is about the best harley ever... ymmv, doug s. |

I am sorry, but the XR1200 and a tuber, IMO, are both apples. Both have basically the same motor, that are made by the same company. One just has a weight problem and was designed by a committee, and one was designed by someone who rides. How about some more apples? http://www.moto123.com/motorcycles-specs/Harley-Da vidson/2010,XR%201200.spy?make2=Ducati&model2=Mons ter%201100&year2=2010 BTW, Buellers aren't the only ones that think this bike is a joke. Check out what Vrod owners have to say: http://www.1130cc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1387 76 |

I'm still puzzled how we have a thread that was speculating silliness like "blacker black" ended up being upset because they put better, adjustable suspension on the bike with probably the best suspension in the entire line up. Puzzling. I am sorry, but the XR1200 and a tuber, IMO, are both apples. Both have basically the same motor, that are made by the same company. One just has a weight problem and was designed by a committee, and one was designed by someone who rides. Again, you're totally missing it. An S1 was a purpose-built sport bike from the ground up with the intention always and only being a sport bike. The XR1200 started life as an entry-level cruiser where weight didn't matter and performance didn't matter much more. It was built to emulate the look of a very specific bike and couple that with improved performance over the standard model. Apples and cinderblocks. |

Who gives a rat's what Lard-Rod owners have to say! Buell is no more, get over it. If you want an American motorcycle with decent(ish) handling & some poke, this is it. It's not a joke, it's a pretty capable bike. If Erik had bought out this model as a tuber replacement for the S3, half of you would be creaming your pants, but it says Harley on it so stop getting so wound up. It's a motorcycle for f***s sake go try it, if it does what you want it to do & it floats your boat, go buy one. I won't think any less of you for it, quite the reverse, my respect for you would be increased, as you evidently know your own mind. |

Mr. G 12% down on power compared to a 95 S2 at 580 Lbs - considerably heavier than a 95 S2 Maybe HD is catching up to 20 years ago? I'll always love a frisky Sportster engine though. |

Erik wouldn't have replaced any tuber with this bike. It is essentially the same overweight sportster frame they have been using since 1984. Therefore no creaming would have occurred, at least not in my pants. Takes far more stimulation than an overweight, overpriced...............sportster |

Mr_grumpy i think all that anyone is saying is that the tuber buells built years ago, is the same market harley is aiming at with this bike. the fact of the matter the tuber buells would out perform this new bike. why pay $17,000 for a bike when you can buy a $3000 tuber and have a better machine. oh i forgot...thats right your buying into a lifestyle, not just a motorcycle. hey everyone has an opinion. |
