So....we made the plans, we made the plane and we made it here! We've only been here for two days now, but we've managed to pack so much into so little time. It barely feels like just two days. The first day was spent on arriving and getting our bearings and a little sleep, but we've adjusted pretty well. Our hosts, Asbjorn (Doerman) and Melanie, have been amazing, making us feel very welcome and giving us a lot of insight into what L.A is all about, some of which was expected and some pleasantly surprising. We have since dispelled all previous preconceptions of what we should expect and decided to take it all as it comes So, yesterday we set out into Hollywood to take the walk of fame and meet the stars. Chili spent time getting acquainted with this little number...
so I wandered off to see a few of my own attractions...
and then I found him just hanging around waiting for me...
We all had a lovely Mexican lunch together (at a very reputable authentic restaurant
Today saw the start of another leg of the adventure, this time on two wheels (x6).
Whoever thought something this majestic was right here in L.A? You don't see this in the travel brochures!!
Huge thanks to Al, Tom and Eric for taking the time to make the trip and get acquainted. You meet some of the best people through Badweb Tomar we head out into bat country on our own to roll a few dice and take in some tacky glitz...stay tuned. |

They're doing alright driving or riding. I worry when they get to NYC. They haven't gotten the hang of the pedestrian thing (looking left THEN right before crossing the street). Court... keep an eye out... We wouldn't want a taxi mangling our favorite Aussies! |

Al and I rode 250+ miles yesterday to share 50 with our new friends and it was well worth it. Kate and Graham are going to be the toast of Badweb for the new few weeks and it is a pleasure to say hello to new found friends. Like ducks taking to water. Welcome to LA!
At least Vamps and Chili don't have to worry about which side of the road to ride on for the next 12 miles.
Mt Baldy Lodge was a very bitter place, right Kate?

I pretty much first heard about this mission when I was on my eighth beer Saturday night. You, my friend, are going to have to venture into really big bat country to say hello. They will be at Treasure Island tomorrow. |

Well, I was out doing Ortega and Palomar a few times each, by myself I might add... Before I left, I was thinking, "Palomar, Glendora, Palomar, Glendora....hmmm" I tend to randomly run into people I know when I ride south, so that's what I did. And I did run into people I know... just not the right ones. Oh well, c'est la vie. |

Matt.. You're blaming Tom and Al.. Not so, my friend. I am to blame for short notice and lack of planning. I did not want to set a schedule for Hombre de Chili y Vampirina before they got here. So it did not become clear until Saturday that this ride was brewing.. I called the usual suspects and put a little blurb under their 3 Weeks .... thread. All is not lost, Matt. I heard first hand plans being made for a return to the US. On a different note... They had Big Plans this morning of getting on the road early. Well, not so. Their bodies decided to not have jetlag any more. So departure was fashionably delayed. Then I got a text message that they had discovered the outlet malls in Barstow. I bet they won't be in LV until after sunset. But hey.. schedule and vacation (holiday... as they call it) should not be used in the same sentence. |

An update it is... Unfortunately no big wins to report-no, but it was such an experience! The sheer immensity of the city and all of it's flashing lights and whizz bang sounds are absolutely overwhelming. We headed out on a late start but by the time we hit the freeway (after one small deviation off course..hehehehe) Chili was impressing me with his ability to stay on the right side of the road. The scenery is truly desolate along the way...
We stopped at Barstow and scored a few bargains and continued on to destination Treasure Island. The view from our room was amazing...
We set out on foot in the remaining daylight to explore the strip...
The fountains at the Bellagio...
The front of TI...
and we saw soooo much more (before getting lost inside Caesar's Palace for a while). We took the night to get dolled up and hit the Margarita bar and the slots at TI into the wee hours of the next morning, but no Jackpot for us The next day after we had slept, while the city continued to roll on around us, we breakfasted at 'Kahunaville', did some obligatory tourist souvenir shopping, and headed up to Mandalay Bay for a Badwebber meet and greet. David (aka Jstfrfun) had tickets for us to see the very cool 'Shark Bay' exhibit after a chat at Starbucks.
It yet again proved our theory that you meet the best people on Badweb, as David regaled us with tales of Buell and life in general. I feel the best memories we will take home with us, may not be of the flashing lights and whirring gizmo's, but the hugs and handshakes we experience face to face. As we meandered back across the country to L.A the planet gave us a beautiful sunset to top off our time in Vegas...
Today we just get a few things organised, head off to a Buell meetup tonight with Asbjorn and fly out to NYC. We cannot express our thanks enough for all the hospitality we have recieved on our stay n L.A. It has made the beginning leg of our journey so much more enjoyable. Thanks Asbjorn and Melanie P.S Melanie is about to embark on a journey of her own exploring the country, so we wish her all the best. Safe travels. |
