I agree with everyone who advises not to do it, especially Ft B's comment about not giving them a reason to cull you from the running. I think tattoos are very cool and since I left corporate America, have been toying with getting a tattoo (or three) myself. I have medical profession friends warning me about needles, hep c and other icky stuff so haven't been able to bring myself to do it. I worked in environmental consulting for 15 years hiring geologists, scientists, engineers, accountants, attorneys & sales reps, and never saw a Sr. Manager with a tattoo. It just was not an accepted part of the corporate culture and from what I understand has become even less accepted since I left. B. |

My military units were always against it, it was court martial offense to get one, and you were bounced out of the unit if you did; with a dereliction of duty and a disobedience to a direct order. So 15 years in, no tats,.... and if I want to go back in,.... no tats..... |

If you decide on going through with it, might I suggest none of these career ending tats: In the right circles, this might actually score you a promotion:

Long sleeves go a long way in the rare occasions I don't want someone to see my tats. But then, I usually wear a full suit to job interviews. |

Tattoo-paying someone lots of money to put graffiti on you. Like most graffiti if it doesn't already, in ten years or so it will look like crap. Just my opinion. G |

"What is wrong with her legs?" "They are his legs." That was TOO funny! Just for more clarification, he is reading her top tattoo. |

Kelly's picture is funny, but it looks fake. I'm working on a project myself. Starting from the left wrist, this will eventually encompass my entire upper body from about the sternum upwards, front and back, including both arms and armpits. It will wrap around the name on my right arm. My back and shoulders will be memorials of certain dead friends and relatives. 100% black ink, no color. And, no... I do not give a f*ck. The Man has already done his worst to me. I'm going to be me whether he likes it or not. I will refrain from tattooing my neck and my hands until my mother has passed away and I do hope that is a long time and most likely it will be. I will never tattoo my face because I just don't like the way it looks. My clothing is mostly long sleeved. I don't like playing 20 questions, so I stay covered up most of the time. Get through supermarket lines a lot faster that way. |

So your taking the top design and wrapping it around your entire body? That would be sick. With tattooing your hands, they have black light ink you could do. I'm going to see how I like it. Gonna get HARD HEAD across my knuckles. You can't really see it without the black light. |

they have black light ink you could do do alot of checking on that. its hard to find a tattooist that will actually do it. not many of them trust the ink. alot of cancer concerns. |

Most of the shops around So. Cal are doing it. Quite a few are tattooing eyeballs and doing eye implants as well. The other day I was watching a girl in her 20's getting her... um... posterior crevice decorated. There was a lot of blood.... not attractive. |

I always remember my two experiences being booked - being asked for "identifying marks" as the guys in holding were being pulled out for photographs. That kinda changed my thinking about getting tattoos. Now, I've got scars, a protruding collarbone, collapsed/twisted toes - so "identifying marks" are probably not as big a deal as it would have been for me in 1969 and again in 1983. |

alot of cancer concerns. I smoke, chew, drink and breathe the air in traffic. I should be good with some knuckle ink. My guy did one of the other artist's at the shop. It came out damn good. If I can only get the jobber to get me in.... |

I have two and will probably get another one but they're not visible. Lynda's is visible with spaghetti straps but it's not a swastika or anything. Having yourself sleeved would hurt your chances of advancement in the white collar world, I'd think. |

Only if I'm in a black lit room will you be able to see the ink. I'd be good. If for whatever reason I lost my job building systems, I've burnt every other bridge in the industry so I'd go drive a truck for my old man...I'm good. I'll just be sure not to look like the crazies above though.... |

I think there is a large difference between "a" tat and a sleeve. There was a dad at the pool the other day with a Superman logo on his arm. No employer would say anything about something like that, but if that tattoo became a sleeve it becomes more of an issue. I have been considering getting ink but would never do a full sleeve because of the environment I work. Mostly what is stopping me is that I haven't found the significant piece I want done. I don't want to just slap anything on there. |
