Had a sit on it yesterday. The wooden seat is gone and it's now a padded leather job. Quite comfortable and a very cool machine when you get a handle on the tech. (Message edited by danger_dave on May 27, 2010) |

I also asked Mark Blackwell (Polaris VP - Motorcycles) about 'The Buell Situation'. He's a really cool guy, with EB-like enthusiasm for their vision (small v). The short story is that sportsbikes aren't in their product mix (at the moment.) They believe they have a range of cruiser style motorcycles that services that market well and they have been concentrating on their Tourers. The Cross Roads, Cross Country and Visions are a damn fine bikes by me. They acknowledge that the Vision is a 'polarizing' concept and that's exactly what they wanted. For the future, smaller capacity cruisers and utilizing some crossover technology from the ATV sector are also on the 'wish list'. Maybe off road bikes, but that is only a guess by me. 'Cruisers we feel we have right and our attention has been on the Touring Range.' Also while I'm making unsubstantiated between the line readings, Badweb knew more about the closure than they did. Other snippets I enjoyed were 'Arlen just loves the Vision and that pretty much keeps him occupied, but his Son Corey has been turning out some stunning designs. I did 50 miles on a Ness Hammer as well and that's a neat looking machine. (Message edited by danger_dave on May 27, 2010) |

just as long as ness stays away from harley,i'd be happy. anything from ness that i put on the 83 was junk. one of things, a shifter left me stranded on my way to work. 40 miles away from home. thank god for vice grips. |

Quote from designer Mike Song: "Here at Victory, we're trying to bring the cruiser market into the 21st Century." Technology isn't always the enemy. Tradition isn't always your friend. Thanks for posting, Dave. Always enjoy your viewpoint as an industry insider. |

Dave, what type of rear suspension does it have? And why are more bikes going to the solo seat these days? |

The hell...? That "Core" thing is a real production bike? No way! Bikes that look that cool and unusual never make it to production! Right...? Victory just got big points in my book. I'm not a huge fan of the design, but I certainly respect the balls they gotta' have to bring it to market. ~SM |

Ooooh - what suspension is a very good question. I'll have to get back to you - I was actually engrossed with the frame/core casting - it appealed to me the same way Buell's 'multiple uses for a single component' goal does. Solo seats is for da stylez points. Practicality V Cool. Edit: It's rigid as far as I can tell - you'd imagine some sort of confederate-style rear on a proddy model (I hope). I'm actually one of the freaks that love the looks of the vision. At a dealer, I was coaxed into actually sitting on one and that thing is crazy huge! How does it compare to a goldwing in weight and handling, I wonder? |

Compares well in handling - as in they are both surprisingly easy to throw around for their mass. Same with the Rocket III. In these supertankers the height of the centre of mass is more important than the weight. Both are good. Goldwing has a better engine if turbine like feel and higher performance is your preference. Vison doesn't have as many doohickeys but it does have one single feature that makes me prefer it to the Wing - an electric windshield. (Message edited by danger_dave on May 27, 2010) |
