"I'm stuck in the 70's. I keep getting sucked into 70's bikes, watches, cars, music, women." I know exactly where you're at, except for the watches
Everyone's a little different, but to me, a cafe racer has clip-ons (or clubmans) and little or no fairing, and I love 'em . I'll post some pics later.
Modesty aside, it is an excellent magazine for cafe racer fans, with lots of great articles, and equally important, its ads are a superb source for hard to find cafe racer parts.
While we are being immodest, I guess we might as well post another photo of Lil Blackie on the unlikely possibility that any bad webber hasn't seen her a dozen times or more:-)
I had a 1961 BMW R69S that had clubman's bars on it.
This photo was taken whilst I was racing it at Vineland NJ back in the day, when there were no track days: if you got to a track it was because you were racing.
Still had a bit of time to wave to the camera man:-). I guess I recently returned from Germany with it, as it seems to still have the luggage race and German license plate.
These led me to a Buell. all "old school" but what else from me.
86 cu.in. Sportster, oil in frame, cooler, deraked, three disc brakes, mag. wheels, custom tank and seat. Handled like sh**. But two years before HD's XR1000.
Honda CB 750, 1000cc kit, cam, duel Webers, Kerker exhaust, custom seat and bi-centennial paint. More like flat tracker.
My first try at Bonneville, Turbo Honda 350 cc four. Would have set a record as I was the only bike in 350cc supercharged, partial streamlining. Went 126 on police radar but Bonneville under water the whole year. I think it was 1984. How about those rear sets. LOL
Sorry about the bad pictures guys but I said "old school" even with cameras. HA!
"Its not gonna be a "cafe racer" but it is gonna have rear sets and clubman bars. " What is that?
I have a project at home I will get to "one day", my modern take on the cafe racer... I have a Suzi RGV250 and a Honda CBX/XR250 engine. The plan is to remove the fairing, remove the stroker engine, bolt in the little thumper and make it as light as I can. It won't be fast, but it will be fun
I too, have an unhealthy desire for a cafe' racer. I'd been thinking about doing the Goldwing thing, but I keep seeing more and more of them. Not as special as I thought. Here are a few from a show put on by our local vintage/ratbike group, the Roadrunners:
