You didn't think they would sell it for a profit, did you? |

Italian motorcycle business - who knows - I still try and imagine what the board meeting would have been like when Proton owned MV. Not my piece btw. |

quote:MV Agusta earned 34 million euros in revenue during 2009 and reported a 20 million euro loss, before interest and taxes.
God bless him if he can find someone to back that deal. Imagine the little Girl Scout setting out to sell cookies for $1.00 a box that cost $1.40 to make . . . . I know . . I know . . they'll make it up on volume. Idiots. |

Idiots ok, so hd bought MV for 109 mil US if they get 34 million euros/43mil US, thats a 66 million US loss + the 25 million US loss in 2009 sales = a 91 million dollar loss. So how much did BMC lose/make in 16 years....... |

By the way ... today Moto Morini went bankrupct. It has been a rough year. But like MV, they are selling bikes in the hundreds. That's a tough model. This isn't the first time they have gone bankrupt either from what I recall... could be very wrong on that one though. They have come and gone a few times, changing owners being shut down, only to reemerge later. |

Two Buells you leave out the 70 mil in debt they paid off as well as the investment on the new model launches. I would put the lose at closer to 250 mil. If they had invested half of that in Buell.... |

Sold many times and again for sale now. A pity, they are wonderful bikes. Same goes for Morini and Laverda. Moto Guzzi is not in a good shape either. Even Ducati was about to die 20years ago. We'll see. Me? I really love italian bikes but I do own a Buell. Me? I am very happy of my XB. |

Let face the facts, closing of Buell is the best thing that ever happen to EB and a huge screw up for H-D...But EB will now be able to build the bikes he alway wanted to with out the input of H-D holding him back!!! Like I said in another post H-D will lose customers as the baby boomer start to die or stop buying new H-D's. And with the high prices of the big bike, the bike most people want. The younger crowd will stick to the metric bikes that are built just as good and cheaper. H-D needs to start a line of cheaper material bike for the young crowd who buying the 3-4K cheaper metric bikes...H-D could do it but the H-D faithful would be super pissed and H-D does not want to offend them with an affordable big bike for everyone. But little do the faithful know H-D is already building them in India. If H-D does not make a bike like that for sale in the U.S.A they will go bankrupt or barrow so much money the government or some other entity will own them. |

Will EB have the (big) money to produce again street legal bikes and sell them? That is something he could do thanks to HD. |

You can be sure someone or company (Bomardier) will want his talents...Think about it BRC has the spider a motorcycle nobody would build. EB builds bike nobody will build. They will be a perfect fit not to mention BRC is already tooled up for an EB style of bike!!! So the start up will cost much less for BRC than anyone else. |

Back about 1994, when I was working at GE Aircraft Engines, I had spent about a month of "nose down" coding creating a program for a data acquisition system for a new test cell that was going on line... It was a mad rush to get things done, and it was a really well sorted program. I had a backup on tape, and the original program. When I got the last bit of it working, the hard drive went away. No problem, restore from tape. tar -cvf foo.tar foobar Aaack! That was backup, not restore. So I created a blank archive erasing my backup. Took about an hour to calm myself down. Went out, got dinner, came back, and started over from scratch. Instead of a month, it took me a week. And the resulting program was superior in every way from the "great" program I accidentally nuked. It was one of the best mistakes I ever made, and I've repeated it on purpose a few times since when I've really designed myself into a corner. Purposfully destroy everything, and start over. I *really* look forward to the Griffen II and Baracuda III. |

It was one of the best mistakes I ever made, great story I hope we get new Buells too. There are only two current production bikes I really like and I would buy selling my XB, the MVagusta brutale and the norton commando cafè racer. I do hope the new buell will be the one I'll buy. |

Screw being dumber than the backup device! I'd much rather fix something that isn't right, than do the same thing over on a computer. I HATE doing anything twice on a computer = fail. I'm also fortunate that I do everything right the frist tmie. |

Court, I think the Girl Scouts are actually smarter than Keith Wandell. If they were to discontinue selling Girl Scout cookies any longer, I doubt if they would spend 125 million to close down the operation. |

Fun . . in a perverse way . . .to watch as Wandell and John Olin work in concert with one of the "5 Worst Corporate Boards in America" to bring down a motorcycle icon. I've gotten a few stories about what happened to the Buell parts support we were supposed to get for the next 7 years and it's laughable. Folks at Buell went to incredible lengths to make certain that everything was in perfect order. This included initiatives from parts from vendors and vendor relations to the ongoing research on the rear bearings of the Ulysses. The Harley-Davidson people have treated it as if "it's Buell, so why waste time on it". It's really a shame. Abe made it 3 days . . . listened to some of the comments . . . and promptly went job looking. My bet is that the stupidity and false arrogance they've shown about Buell and MV Agusta is a reflection on the way they are handling other important things. |

What happens now when my 1125R breaks down? No parts? Do I need to get a lawyer and see what it takes to get HD to honor the parts deal? |

me too! I'll keep my current HDs 62,82 and hopefully be able to buy my 99 back from my Dad when he is done with it. Can't really see myself buying any more. Now a new Buell to go along with my 03? Yep, I can see that happening |

its a f-ing shame that when EB does start building (street) bikes again HIS last name wont be on the tank. I know it will be be a great bike no matter what name is on the tank/airbox etc. but just make me more frustrated with the current leadership at HD. |
