I just changed over to Amsoil at 30,000 miles. My knees actually got weak when the guy rang it up. $40.00 for three quarts! I was eyeballing the fancy little l.e.d. flashlights they had on the counter when I almost fell down. No fancy little flashlight this week. This stuff better be good. |

Nut, I spent $230 on Amsoil a few months back, but it was quite a bit more than 3 quarts. Did you finally get rid of that damn Fram filter? |

My knees actually got weak when the guy rang it up. $40.00 for three quarts! Become a Preferred Customer- buy it at dealer price and have it delivered to your door. Three quarts of MCV 20W-50 at dealer price plus shipping and tax delivered UPS next day to my door is $34.90 ($11.63/qt). Buying in larger quantities saves you even more: a case (12 quarts) of MCV 20W-50 costs me $114.62 delivered- that's $9.55/qt. Not too bad... for the good stuff. |

Harley-Davidson synthetic at my local H-D dealer is $12 a quart (and it's not even a REAL synthetic). Amsoil bike oil is running about $9 a quart in town from one of the independent guys down the street. Cheaper and better, can't beat that. I run Amsoil in all my bikes. Good stuff. |

I too recently switched to Amsoil synthetic from Rotella-T and note that the bike runs cooler as evidenced by reduced fan activity. I also run it in the primary and think the bike shifts smoother too. Good stuff. However, I bought a gallon through amsoil.com recently, and it cost me way more than you guys are paying. What's the hookup on the "preferred customer" deal you speak of? |

What's the hookup on the "preferred customer" deal you speak of? You can sign up to be a Preferred Customer online- there's a six month trial ($10) and a yearly membership ($20). Both get you Amsoil at dealer wholesale price. PM me for details about a BadWeB discount. |

I go to my local Wal-mart and get Mobile v-twin for $8 a quart...I do not care what anyone says top brand oils are not to far apart as in the quality and performance for every day use. I don't think my Firebolts engine internals will fail faster on Mobile that Amsoil. If I was going run my bike on a race track at high RPM all the time then it might be worth the extra $$$$. IMO it is a waste of money to by an oil that cost 50% more. But as my Dad use to say, to each is own. |

The Amsoil I run in my 1125 is $8.85qt online store and its delivered almost the next day. Its a nice network they have set up, package and delivery is lickety split. The amsoil formula I use is not under the "motorcycle" oils, its in "automotive", blue cap, High Zinc formula 20/50. |

+1 on being a preferred customer, I run it in the cages as well. I get a few cases once a year. I sell it to the sales force at work from time to time, with no problems, they put 30k on a car and change the oil twice a year. Great stuff Amsoil. |

My work van is a 2001 Ford E-250 5.4L Triton engine. Last year at 138K on the OD I changed oil with the amsoil 10/30 I run in my '99 VRF800. Passing gear is a whole new experience now,, that engine runs stronger than when it was new! Less friction times 8 is a big deal apparently. I even changed my moms lawn tractor oil and dropped in a qt of the amsoil 20/50 I run in my Buell. I had to set the idle down on the thing, I'm totally convinced that "oil" can make a difference. |

Theres a warranty buster!!! Only if you could prove oil failure. The reason Amsoil recommends up to 25,000 mile/one year oil change intervals on some of their products is because their oil is capable of doing it. Amsoil does extensive testing to ensure that their product claims are substantiated, and that even at extreme service intervals Amsoil surpasses the performance requirements of the OEM. Truth is, the only way to really know if your oil is performing well is to have it tested. I decided to have the Amsoil tested from my '08 XB12R after one year and six track days (688 miles at Jennings GP in the Florida heat= short periods of hell with long periods of sitting in between). The Blackstone Lab report stated the oil was in like-new condition (TBN=11.6), with trace amounts of copper and silicon (engine still in break-in), and they recommended increasing the next interval to 8-10 track days or 15 months. This test shows that even under very harsh conditions the Amsoil in my bike was performing so well that the OEM service interval recommendation was out the window. If someone were to exceed an OEM maintenance schedule (even by three-times) and the oil they're using still performs within specs- it's not going to be a warranty issue. Try it yourself- spend the $22 to have Blackstone Labs test your oil and see if it's performing as well as the manufacturer claims. I did- and found out that my Amsoil is just as good as they claim it is. |

Thats good to know. I use the 25,000 miles or 1 year 0w30 in my cars I still change the oil on the bike every 5,000 miles. both engine and primary..... its habit |

Besides my toys, I run it in my vehicles as well mainly because it is so hard to get my wife to go get the oil changed that extra mileage gives me some piece of mind. I know its a little more expensive but when you compare it to the hassle of getting it changed every ten thousand miles verses every three thousand it is worth it, plus im only paying for one change rather than three. |

If you are going to run the Amsoil, I would highly recommend using their filter as well. They (Amsoil) will warranty their oil if you use their filter (and follow the intervals). |

Mobil 1 V-twin is over $20 a quart here, if you can find it... I don't think Amsoil is even stocked here. |

the mini's run syn right from the factory and recommended change is 15k. so do you think they did some testing before deciding on using a syn in these cars. |

they put 30k on a car and change the oil twice a year. Mercedes Benz uses once a year oil changes (I think it's Mobil 1 and a proprietary filter) so it got me to thinking I'd try it on my '04 Dodge Dakota that's out of warranty anyway. 6 months in and the oil looks good. I use Amsoil in my bikes and like it so far. |

This maybe true but the motor companies can void the warranty if you do not use their recommended oil and intervals!!! It is at their discretion. Think about it if they can prove breakage or failure because you did not follow their intervals and recommended oil, your screwed. Best bet is follow what they want until the warranty is gone. Better to be safe than sorry. (Message edited by paw on May 14, 2010) |

No, they can't... http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/uscode15/usc_sup _01_15_10_50.html An OEM can suggest a specific oil- but they can only require the use of a specific oil grade, class, approval, weight, or range there of. An OEM cannot void a warranty if the oil used is different from their "suggested" oil, as long as it meets or exceeds the exact same specifications of their "suggested" oil, and it can be shown that the warranty claim is not a direct result of the oil's failure. An OEM can suggest a maintenance schedule, but if it is based solely on the performance of their "suggested" oil, and if the oil you are using exceeds their "suggested" oil's interval, then the OEM interval is no longer required. This is only valid as long as any non-oil related maintenance items are serviced according to the OEM suggestion, and that any warranty claim cannot be proved to be the result of an oil failure. |

WHOOOOOOO----WEEEEE! It's worth it! After switching to Amsoil 20W50, I rode 320 miles today and averaged 46 mpg. This is a record for me. My best so far has been 40 mpg, and that was being mindful of gas mileage. I normally ride with a heavy hand, and today was no different. Mostly twisty back roads, some slab, and mostly light traffic. This was $40.00 well spent. |
