Just a feeler.... not sure yet. Its only 2 years old. Maybe one of you guys can help me out??? I have a Canon Rebel XT D350 with the stock 18-55 kit lens,Canon battery Grip with batteries,2 memory cards, 1 Canon ultrasonic 75-300mm lens with filter,1 Canon Ultrasonic 28-135mm with Image Stablizer also a filter on it, 1 Canon flash 580 EX-II. I also have a Tamarac pack pack bag that holds all the above plus more and your lap top. All manuals a software I have. Just need to know what its worth?? I don't want to separate any of it so please don't ask. Can anyone help me out and give me a figure?? | ||

You usually do better splitting things off, as it's pretty rare that someone wants to: A. Buy everything B. Spend that much in one shot C. Get that exact kit Like I said, I've been out of the loop on used prices. | ||

That's good - I have several Canon paperweights. When the last lease ran out the residual was negligible. It's actually in a bag as 'backup' now. | ||

To what I see most of the stuff that I see on Ebay is getting about 3/4's of what it was new maybe slightly less. None the less it is what it will be. | ||

Camera prices drop like rocks simply due to evolution. If you don't think so . . send me $2,000 and I'll send you the D100 I just replaced with a D700. The exception is lens but I may want to make that lens over $1,000. I've got a couple new and unused Nikon lens that may go for $100 on ebay. But . . the really good lens tend to hold their value or increase. If you want to invest . . . buy guitars. | ||

Go on ebay, sign in, search your item then click "Completed Listings" on the left side pane. Should give you a good idea of what past ones have sold for. | ||

Well the flash isn't worth $400 used. I tried selling mine a year and a half ago for that and not a single bite so I can't imagine the price going up. Going price on a Canon forum seems to be right around $375 for a flash shipped. IIRC I bought the 75-300 on craigslist a couple years back for between $75-$100. Dana, did you mean the 24-105 IS? Because the 28-105 was never made with IS if I recall correctly. | ||

I bought a 1DmkII that was barely used for $1000 almost a year and a half ago. In 3 years time it had lost about $2000 in value.....ouch. | ||

The only way to dabble in photography is to buy used gear. That's how I bought my 100-400L and sold it for what I paid ($1100). | ||

I invest in stocks and spend on hobbies. I've had two Buells that had over $25,000 in them and sold for less than $5,000 eventually. No regrets. Stocks done fine too but been a lot less fun. I'd take the stuff to e-Bay, sell it and be done with it. I had a bunch of Motorola radios, all the "top of the line" (over $2,000 each) when they were new . . . I just ditched them for $175 each and they were indistinguishable from new. | ||

we were just talking about this in my photography class. this is all a repeat of what court said but to sum up my prof's words bodies loose value very fast. my instructor tries to flip them in less than 2 years to keep the loss down (give or take when the newer models are released). but a good lens will be a good lens for a long time. after the initial price drop they tend to taper off very slowly. sometimes a lens is only $20 less used than it is new. from what he has seen kit lenses and other low end lenses (low end being anything less than 1,200 as a rule but some 800 dollar lenses are also considered higher end) drop to about 50 and sometimes 30% of initial price on the used market. but an expensive lens will will only loose 30% or so at the most. that is until camera bodies use other mounts and the lens can no longer be attached to a modern camera. court can you shoot me a PM if you decide to get rid of your nikon glass? I have a D90 and am trying to acquire more lenses at the moment but cant afford much. | ||

Bads1 The body is what's going to kill ya. Its dated, you can buy the D350 in kit form on Craigslist at any given time for around $300. The 580 strobe for around $250 (sometimes less), the compact flash cards, that would depend on the size of card and with today's memory card pricing, you can get a decent 4 GB card for $30. Batteries decline after each use, not much to be made there either. The battery grip, depending on the day, $100. Lenses are your best bet to recover money and no, you don't need a $1200 lens for it to be considered a good lens. I use a $100 lens on a regular basis, and it competes with the more expensive options.  Any image stabilized lens, would be considered a good lens. Which you have with the 28mm - 135mm. You could recover about 75% of what you paid. Your 75mm - 300mm is another story. Its a decent lens but, its on the low end of Canon lenses. Last one I sold in mint condition I got $140 for it on eBay a couple of years ago. Like Court said, stick your items on eBay and try to recover what you can. | ||

I didn't say that a lens that is less than 1200 isn't good but its probably not a high end lens just like a focus is a good car but its not high end. (  get it focus car lens  ) I love my 35mm f1.8 its a good lens and was only $200 but if I spent 2,000 on a 35mm I would have a much better lens construction materials less plastic glass mounts gears motors overall longevity would be greater. and that is the difference I see and what I look at when buying used. plastic doesn't last and the potential degradation kills resale value. my kit lens is already showing signs of use after only a few months, the plastic mount has scoring and at times does not seat properly on the body. | ||

What stuff sells for on ebay is not indicative of what it would sell for in a typical private party sale.. I have heard people a LOT say "well it sells for this on ebay".Including myself. But they never even come close unless they sell it on ebay. Like Court said above. "take the stuff to ebay" . | ||

IMO there are 3 thing's that make a photo. 1) The person behind the camera 2) Lens choice 3) The camera I personally do not own any Canon "L" glass and probably never will because there is no money to be made shooting rock and roll and I can't afford "L" glass on my fixed budget. What lenses I do have are very well made, I have done my research on each of them and consider them on the higher end of the scale even though they are not "L" glass. BadS1, again, try eBay, you may do very well and come out on top! I'll take my low end lenses, and go play by myself, now! | ||
