PGR invited by families, told not to attend… Disgraceful if true.
quote:Many of the working class men who died were veterans and some of them rode motorcycles. A source has told this page that “Families of the miners killed in the explosion…had requested the Patriot Guard Riders attend.” The Patriot Guard Riders is an informal club of veteran motorcyclists which exists to make sure that all veterans are given respectful funerals. And, they were banned from this service by federal officials because those officials believe the Patriot Guard is a security threat.
Source: http://www.agingrebel.com/?p=3216 WWI memorial vandalized after SCOTUS reprieve…
quote:The 76-year-old Mojave Cross war memorial in San Bernardino County's High Desert has been torn down by vandals, just days after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the religious symbol could remain -- at least temporarily -- on public land.
Warning: Reading some of the comments may increase your blood pressure. Source: http://www.pe.com/localnews/stories/PE_News_Local_ D_webmojave.15f87a6.html I find it hard to stomach that the ACLU and others feel their “belief” in a “Separation of Church & State” allows them to seek the removal of a cross from a war memorial, erected in 1934, by veterans of WWI? All those things are a complete disgrace to those very people (Vets) who kept us free from day 1 around 1776. There ARE places in this country though where freedom and justice prevail. My city of Riverdale just put up a nice small Veterans memorial monument and I'm very proud to have my name on it with many others who served. Hoorah. Vote freedom first as it says on my NRA hat. I will in November and again in two years. Bob |

I can understand the cross thing only because of the wording of the law(with which I do not agree). Not allowing people to attend a funeral who were invited there is a shame! The president spoke of "family" yet disregards the feelings of the actual family!? |

A cross is a religious item. It should not be there. Also, how does the christian cross represent Jews and vets with other religions? I feel as it is disrespectful to non christian vets. |

A cross is a religious item. It should not be there. Crackhead, not trying to knock on you, but you may want to read up on the history of the Mojave cross. It was originally erected in '34 by Veterans of WWI. At that time, it was not Federal land. The land was taken in '93 by the Clinton Administration & made Federal land. So, to put it in context, it was created originally by WWI Vets as a WWI memorial, on private land. There was no problem with it until AFTER the land became Federal property. The VFW has been attempting to get the land (~5 acres) transferred from Federal back to private ownership to defuse the current PC crap the ACLU is attempting. My personal opinion, not directed at anyone in particular & religion aside, leave the damn cross alone & keep your mouth shut unless you're a WWI Vet. YMMV. |

Why are graves in Arlington National Cemetery marked with white crosses? I plan on being laid to rest there as I unfortunately earned my free ticket there in 2006. |

Geforce, Amen brother, as well as all the graves in France, England, S.Korea and all over the S.Pacific. Also, if I'm not mistaken all our brothers who are laid to rest there are all denominations. No matter what anyone thinks we are a country founded on Judeo/Christian belief's with all religions welcome as Nevrenuf has elequently stated. 'Nuf said. Geforce, The cross marker has been replaced with a rectangle stone that allows for various religious markings. I believe there was a trasnition period when the star of David is authorized in some sections and cemeteries. Here is a list of authorized markers for the head stones. http://www.cem.va.gov/hm/hmemb.asp Also alot of the pictures we see with the field of crosses are American Cemeteries over in Europe from WW1 and WW2. |

gotta luv that the same freedoms and rights that the people who come to this country are trying to get are the same freedoms and rights they want to b***h about. Enough of this pc bs lets go back to the old ways and if you dont like it then leave this country go and try to find another with the rights and freedoms we have here. |

Memorial cross was hidden, enclosed, in a plywood box. First reports to park service were that box was gone. Responders found the whole cross was gone, not torn down, it was stolen. That's what I read on the internet, anyway. The ACLU didn't take it. |

Meh, if you served and died for your country, think you should get whatever religious marker ya want. Cross, Star of David, whatever. You earned it. Maybe methheads or those glue sniffing teenagers stole it, doubt it was atheist or the ACLU. |

The ACLU didn't take it. Didn't say they did. I find their legal actions preceding this event in the context of how the cross came to be where it was in relation to their lawsuit against it's presence reprehensible. As for who is ultimately the guilty party or parties, I won't speculate other than to disagree with the current hypothesis of it being the work of someone taking it for scrap metal. Someone went to a lot of work to remove a cross out in the middle of nowhere that most people didn't know existed until recently, shortly after SCOTUS ruled it could stay while the courts looked again at the legalities of the proposed land transfer from NPS to private. |

Crackhead - thanks for the link. The other day at work, we were discussing what a particular symbol could be that we saw in a pic in the paper of a veteran's grave. I now believe it was the Sokka Gakkai International. Who knew there was so many different ones!?!? |

its not like we are kidnapping liberals and branding them with a cross and putting them back in the wild with a new tattoo. It was on private land that was claimed by the clinton land grab (similar to the one OBama just pulled off) It should have been grandfathered in as a historic monument and left standing. WTF about stonehenge replica in washington State that was constructed by SAM HILL and since donated to the state as a park.... do we dismantle that ? |

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." According to that congress can make no laws prohibiting the display of crosses on the grounds that they are religious symbol. Just in case anybody is wondering. "The separation of church and state" does not exist anywhere in the Constitution. It is a misnomer popularized by many in the anti-religion crowd. G |
