I got an app for my Droid that uses the GPS to save my coordinates and altitude and saves it into a file that you can load into Google Earth. It's called simply "GPS2GoogleEarth" Went 'wheeling in Gorman today and let the software run the whole time. The resulting file is about 208k. I copied it from my phone to my pc and just double clicked it, and Google Earth opens up and zooms right down to everywhere I went. Check it out for yourself. I thought I was going to see a series of plotted points at some kind of interval, but it's a continuous line showing each twist and turn. See if you can find the part where I got out of the truck and walked around with the phone in my pocket for a few minutes. This is possibly my favorite new app. From here on out, every time I'm on a ride I'll be able to log the entire thing, and any pictures I take are geotagged so I can just grab the location in Google maps or Earth. Just thought I'd share. It's a free app, but you can make a donation to take the tiny little ad banner off it.

I pay for the Google Earth Plus subscription. It is Awesome! My Zumo 550 can share the logged trip data from the Mapquest software with it and vice-versa. It is a great tool. |

its not .xml it's ".kml" and Google Earth will open it right up... Check to see if you have the latest version of Google Earth, perhaps? I've sent it to a bunch of people who have all been able to see it already. |

WOW! How cool is that? I have a BMW-branded Garmin unit on the K1200LT, but had no way of tracking where I'd been on the Buell. Think I'll go get that bad boy on my Droid right now! Thanks! |

Jaimec, you'll want to keep the phone plugged in while you use this app... it keeps the GPS constantly turned on which really eats the battery. |
