Iv noticed on some other threads people mention stuff heard in HD dealers about buell So what is the dumbest anti Buell comment heard or overheard in a HD dealer.( you know the stuff that make you want to
have them sterilized so they cant reproduce. Rules
1. it has to be in a HD dealer
2. and it has to be from a HD "rider" or employee of the shop.
3. And if available your comment in return.

"disclaimer" By no means is this meant to discredit Buell, Erik Buell , Elves, or the bikes. It is just for shear entertainment and to showcase the ignorance of some people.

Thanks for playing

I rode with a friend to a dealer and a salesman told my friend(away from my ear)that I was a "pretty boy Buell rider". At another dealer, said friend was looking to upgrade his harley with stage III or some shit like that. Salesman told him.........you still won't be able to keep up with Harley. Friend was confused at first, till he realized the salesman was telling him he wouldn't be able to keep up with me(Harley) and my Buell. At least that salesman was honest..................

I was told by the parts counter at Laidlaw's Harley in Baldwin Park, CA that there are no aftermarket exhaust systems made for the XB12R, and I would have to wait for the race kit to come out.

Ive got an 06 xb and wanted to change the airbox, instead of cutting mine I bought an 07 one from the dealer here in Lexington. They informed me that there is no difference and an 06 and 07 airbox and if there was it would not make a difference anyway. So we took the cover off of each one and to his surprise I was right. He followed up by saying that Buell knows what they are doing and they wouldnt do it if it didnt help.

While looking at a Buell in Waukon, out of the mouth of a salesman: "I don't know shxt about Buells". I asked him "You don't sell very many then do you?"

From a parts guy at an unnamed shop (to protect the innocent) "oh, you mean those bikes over there that never sell".

From Norice's shop (maybe before he started working there) when I was seriously looking for a CityX: "You'll have to go find it in the back, can I interest you in a Vrod?" My dad was with me who was a salesman most of his life said: "They don't sell many of those do they?"

As much as I liked Buell, it was hard to hand money over to shops that had that type of attitude.

I pulled into the parking lot at a local HD and there were two guys standing outside yapping about their bikes. As I was taking my gear off, they walked over and the one dude said, "Hey wow, is that a Ducati?"
Um, yeah....guess he couldn't see the two big BUELLs on the airbox...

A year an a half into my Uly(very happily I might add), I was back in the dealership for some parts. The wife and I were looking at an SCG for her. While standing back a bit, a sales staff guy came over to me and said you don't want to ride those things, they are junk, come over here and get on a real bike(pointing to a sportster). I saw the owner of the store and let him in on the sales guy's approach, he wasn't there much longer.

The silliest was the day I rode my wife's Blast into the dealership lot after it's conversion to a Blastulys', with the Journey bags and barricade orange paint. Two sales guys came out and became totally confounded, they could not believe it was a Blast, but they knew it was a Buell.

"Dude are you in the hospital? I aint seen your Buell out front for weeks"
(I rode every day except snow) I quit in January.

Yeah those Buells are fun for around town, but you cant ride distance on them....(REALLY)
You know I dont every see any Buells down at the shop.... Thats because they are out riding.

You dont actually sell those do you? I mean this bike has been here for ever. Actually the is a black blast, I have sold six of them this last month, At 70mpg its the most popular bike in the shop

Not really a Buell Bash, but I was in eyeballing an 1125R, I sat on it, and the salesman says,

"well, you want me to write up an '08 or an '09?"
I said,
"No, my wife wants an inground pool"
he says,
"You can't ride a pool"
I said,
"Yeah? Well, if I buy a Buell I wouldn't be able to ride my wife either."

I bought my bike last Nov from the local Buell/HD dealer. I noticed my fairing was melting and the clutch was making its spot in my garage. I take it to the dealer I bought it from and go to the service counter. Im wearing a Buell adventure jacket, Icon pants, TCX boots and have a Buell flame helmet in my hand. I dont look like anyone else in the HD palace....

Me: Hi Im here to get my bike looked at.
Service guy: No problem were not busy we can get you in right now.
Me: Awesome Ill go grab some lunch while you check it out.
Service guy: What year is it?
Me: Its a 2008
Service guy: Softail, Vrod?
Me: naw its an 1125R
Service guy: Thats not a Harley
Me: Its a Buell
Service guy: Buell is out of business we dont work on them here.
Me: I bought it here 3 months ago.
Service guy: let me check
Me: OK thanks
Service guy: We have Zero Buell parts here but you can leave it....
Service guys walking in while Im standing there go who parked a rice rocket by the front door?

Got back on the bike rode about 35 minutes to another dealer. Walked in and met the service manager. 20 minutes later my parts were ordered (fairing and clutch kit). Also bought an extended warranty/wheel & tire package that day.

I wrecked on Monday evening turning and hit some wet gravel over paint. Lowsided into grass.

Fast forward to TODAY 5 May 2010....
Called the dealer I bought the bike from...
Me: Hi yadda yadda I had an accident my bike is being towed there right now.
Same service guy from months ago....
Yeah its here looks rough.
Me: Can I give you HD reference number for a cali can for fumes and ask about insulating the frame?
SG: Whats that?
Me: 1125s have a fuel fumes issue, its a bullitin.
SG: Never heard of it before we may have to charge you. We are backed up and I cant even look at your bike today.
Me: No problem call me

Fast forward to 430 today. I call the service manager at the dealer I would prefer did my work. Explain whats going on in detail. My Ins co would only transport it to the nearest repair location which was where I bought it.

SM: I got you covered, your fairings and clutch are here. We installed a Cali can yesterday at no charge on another 1125. I will pick up your bike tomorrow from the other dealer and pay for it myself. 3 techs there ride buells so that removes the guess work. I will contact your insurance rep and get the details. I will call you back in 20 minutes.
SM calls back: Everything is done I will call you tomorrow when it gets here.
Me:

I must give kudos to Brians HD of Langhorne PA. They have customer service that everyone should expect when they are dealing with someones passion and transportation.

This happened about the time that the XBs became known about. I was at pet shop with my S2, guy comes up and says, thats a Buell, how you like it? Tell him I love it. He then says with amazment, that tiny frame holds all the full? How much fuel can you carry? I don't correct him and tell him 5 gallons. While I am in the store I see him through the windows tapping on my frame.

I went in to my local dealer to see about getting a European Certificate of Conformity, so I can transfer the bike from UK to French registration. I'd already called twice about the same subject to be told the guy I needed to speak to would call me back.

So I wander in with my 10yr old lad, scuffed leather jacket, jeans with Buell riding boots peeking out the bottom, full face Shoei in hand with large oval Buell sticker on the back.
We walk up to the counter & a pretty little miss asks me how she can help me, (my son was there so I couldn't answer truthfully) I explain that I need this paperwork for my Super TT to get it plated here.
She looks totally blank & says a what? I explain it's a model of Buell.
With a look of disgust she says I'll have to see Stephan (who used to have a sweet S1W). He's the guy who is supposed to have rung me & so far, hasn't.
I ask if he's there, knowing full well that he is, because I can see him talking to a HD rider at his desk.
The receptionist then tells me that, Yes he is there but he can't see me because he has "customers" to deal with.

On the way out the shop I expected to see them get the mop & bucket out to clean where I'd stood.

When I bought my XB, I got the usual tour of the shop...meet the this guy and that guy and the gal that runs the motorclothes area, etc etc.....then I was introduced to the "chrome specilist"...I smiled and shook his hand and asked to meet the "dechrome specialist" since there was some ugly azz chrome on the bike that I wanted blecked out....jaws dropped.

These days, I go there every weekend and wander around while having a cup of coffee....they have really good coffee...say hi to everybody....ask if they got in any Buell accessories or goodies in yet....when I get a blank stare back, I woop out my fat bankroll and shake it around and tell em...guess I'm headed somewhere else to spend this money.

I needed brake pads.
Went over to SMHD&Buell because that's where I bought the bike, they're close to the house, and they were always helpful.
The guy at the parts desk says "Hey Dave, what'cha need.
I said front brake pads.
He does some clicking on the puter, looks up at me and asks, "that's an 03 right?"
I says yep.
He asks, "you don't like the stock pads, you want the Lyndals, or the EBC?"
EBC if ya have 'em.
He goes back and gets the pads, asks if there's anything else, and we talk about the weekend weather, and heading up to Suches, and riding in general.
As I headed out, there was a guy getting off his old school full dresser and eyeing my bike.
He looks at me and says, "it's a cryin shame they felt they couldn't keep them bikes a goin"
I said yeah, it sucks.
He says, "it's pretty obvious they ain't no riders makin decisions no more.
You got that right says I.
He says "ride safe"
I says thanks, and have a good one.

Last year while putting on my gear after buying some oil at the local HD dealer.
The owner of a Dyna I was parked next to made the comment "I wish I could put that engine in my wifes sportster". I wasnt totally sure if that was an insult or a compliment? So I laughed and said "Ya" fired up the bike and rode off.

It wasn't exactly an anti-Buell comment, but I got a good laugh out of it the whole way home... I stopped at the local Harley place to pick up some Formula+. On the way out, I see a Harley rider looking my bike over so I stopped to talk to him. He informs me that he'd never seen "them things" (frame pucks) before, but that if it were him he'd put some little caster wheels on there so when you leaned it over in a corner you could just put it down on the little wheel and cruise on through.

Sorry, around here Buell isn't a dirty word.
All four dealerships near me have Buell people there.
The ricers, mods, bikers, rockers, everyone seems to like the Buell.
I've only met very few that had anything negative to say.

It was during my Advanced Rider Safety class during a break I went into use the rest room and the dealership had just gotten in the new Uly. Several riders as well as sales people were checking it out and one of the salesmen says "Its a nice bike but too bad it will rattle your kidneys out your a$$ because it is put together so loose. All those Buells are that way." Seeing that he had an agreeable audience, he continued with comments about poor handling and no distance riding as I walked out. That was the last time I was there.

When I started having trouble with my '02 X1 White Lightning's DDFI (among other things), I dropped it off at one of the three local H-D/Buell dealerships (all the same company) for a service and warranty work. I went over the list of issues and explained how the cold start problem was getting worse, and could they take a look.

When I returned to pick up my bike the tech went over the completed service items and all the issues with me personally- and finished by saying "Oh, and for the cold start thing you must remember to use the choke..." I replied "Ahh, the choke- I never use that... could you show me where it is again?" As he was searching around the bike for the choke I asked "Did you personally work on my bike?" He replied "Yes, I am one of the only techs that is trained to work on Buells."

After about a minute I felt so uncomfortable watching this young guy search in desperation for the choke on my fuel injected bike, I finally said "You're not going to find the choke- it's fuel injected." He sheepishly muttered "Yeah, that's right" and just walked away. I went back in and mentioned to the service manager that it's not too reassuring to find out the mechanic that just serviced your bike does not even know whether it's carbed of fuel injected- especially when it has just been "checked out" for an FI issue. I think Eeyore summed it up well... "Pathetic, he said.. that's what it is".

I'm going to break rules 1 and 2 I was waiting for this topic to come up since so many Harley riders have miss-information on Buell.
I took the Ride Like a Pro class 2 weekends ago on my Uly and Chris another Uly rider took it with me. Excellent class for limited space exercises for any bike.
so towards the end of class, 2 of the instructors tell Chris and I that Erik Buell is dead. #3 our response was jaws dropped open and we totally gave him the correct fact that Erik was alive and well and keep an eye out for Erik Buell Racing.

that wasnt with me around! i would have kicked them square in the ass right in front of everyone there. ive jumped a couple salesmen over the years when i caught them telling a customer that they didnt want the bike(buell) they were asking about specifically. usually i walk up and say something along the lines of "he just says that because he doesnt know a damn thing about them, but ive got a garage full of them. for some reason they keep multiplying...! what would you like to know?" it usually runs the sales guy off and then i can have an actual conversation with someone about it.

I see the same thing when teaching Rider's Edge. I would go over and help the sales staff if they had a customer standing over a Buell. Kind of bail them out and give the customer info about the bike. Been going on for 10 years at 3 HD dealers that had Buells. I worked at 4 HD dealers during my RE career one didn't even want Buells any way shape or form. I lasted there for about 1.5 years and went to another dealer.

Called the Riders Edge manager because I was running late from work to get to my class. Asked him to fill in for me as I had a 50-minute freeway ride over a steep mountain on the Blast.

Got there in 40 minutes. As I pulled my stuff out of my bag a salesman said "you're here?"
I said yes.
He said "you drove THAT over the mountain?"
I said yes.
He said "how fast did you go?"
I said "80, up hill, 85 downhill."
He said. "THAT will go THAT fast?"
I said, "I see why you don't sell many of these."
