Would the kids have been sent home if they wore American flags on St.Patrick's Day? How about Bastille Day? What a crock of sh*t! I guess I'm so racist I should move to Arizona which, as we know, is the most racist state in the union. |

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost. The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day. The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo. |

It's not even a Mexican holiday... it's an American holiday for Mexicans to celebrate an event in Mexican History, which is fine... But let's keep it in perspective. This is the United States of America. Not Mexico. |

I understand that this was done because they feared that it would cause fights to break out. Rather than infringe on first amendment rights, why not go after those that would commit an act of violence because of someone wearing RW&B clothing. Is it racist of me to think that this would probably be someone of Mexican descent? |

The best part is that the Holiday is limited to Puebla, Mexico for the Battle of Puebla where they defeated the French. I say we rename it Tequila day since the only reason it is celebrated by Americans is because it is another day to get drunk. |

Since I'm an American, I love our flag. I see it as an emblem representing our freedom. I don't care to see it worn as clothing. As a flag, YES!!! As clothing, NO!!! Send them home. They were just looking to cause trouble to begin with. |

This politically correct stuff is getting to be such B.S. An american kid can't even wear an american flag to school in america. But a kid of mexican descent can wear a foreign flag to an american school and that is O.K. That administrator is proof a person doesn't have to be smart to work in public education. |

They weren't wearing a real "flag", they were wearing clothing... with the flag/flag colors printed on them. Not the same thing. Would it be ok if people wore Mexican flag T shirts on July 4th? Or Presidents day? Would you care? Would you make/ask them turn their shirt inside out? |

California. I'm shocked! I'll wear my American, Greek, Irish or Maryland flag anytime anywhere I want. Good on those kids not backing down. (Message edited by b00stzx3 on May 07, 2010) |

XB12 the flag is not meant to be worn as clothing period. Regardless of whether it is a screen print or not. The american flag is a symbol. I was just feeling like trying to make light of the situation. I served in the military and it pains me to no end the disrepect that is shown to the colors everyday. I believe in this instance the administrators were trying to prevent a potential problem before it started. If you read the article they asked the other students to remove their flags as well. It probably could have been handled differently but the administrators did what they felt was best for all the students involved. |

Now the Mexicans are marching demanding respect. They need to learn in no uncertain terms that it is respectful to honor the flag of your nation every day of the year, and if they want to live here that flag is red, white, and blue. http://www.morganhilltimes.com/news/265420-hispani c-students-march-through-downtown-for-respect |

My point is: Actual FLAGS weren't worn as clothing. Student weren't wearing actual FLAGS! OK..so they were wearing "symbols" of the American flag. (but not an actual AMERCIAN FLAG) What if the kid had a tattoo of the American flag... I guess they would have told him to cover it or go home? Did an actual Mexican person complain?? NO. Kinda reminds me of that movie Minority Report. -Freshman Laura Ponce, who had a Mexican flag painted on her face and chest, told the Morgan Hill Times that Cinco de Mayo is the "only day" Mexican-American students can show their national pride.- Are you kidding me? Is this the only day they are allowed to wear Mexican colors? They can't wear a Mexican flag any other day?? Does the United staes also have a Canadian Pride day? Or a UK Day? |

XB12, you are letting Randle get you off track of the issue, exactly what he wants to do. The issue here isn't and never was if the students did something disrespectful to the American flag. |

The principal should have monitored both parties and sent both of them home if they were displaying their colors to incite commotion. |

I think the Principal was trying to prevent something from happening. Not saying it's right. The big question is were the kids wearing old glory doing it to show pride in a respectful way, or trying to piss off the Mexican kids and talking shyt? We don't know. But I'm sure ONE mans decision is now somehow a reflection on all of California and school officials with a latin name. And an excuse for more racial B.S. |

Randle, do you really think it's bad to have a t-shirt or such with a flag printed on it? I'm not trying to start anything and I read your link, so I see where you're coming from. But I have some t-shirts with the red white and blue and we all see them on the 4th ect. I'd like to see more. Maybe it is disrespectful, I dunno... |

If they are American citizens, why isn't it American-Mexicans? Think back to the Crayola box. If a crayon had more red then yellow in it, then it is red-yellow. If they are not citizens, then how does the American part apply? Wearing the flag as part of the clothing is wrong according to US flag code. But The students should not have been sent home. |
