Not their fault. If people feed them, then they lose their fear of people and view them as a source of food. Out here, the boaters think it's cool to feed the swans. The swans then look to people as a source of food, and when they don't get fed, they get PISSED. My friend's wife was bitten by a swan because she ran out of bread and had nothing left to give it. If you think it's bad with squirrels and swans, think BEARS. Don't blame the animals... as always, it's PEOPLE that are STUPID. |

"feed the 'gators." LOL- that's my euphemism, same meaning as "dropping the kids off at the pool", "taking the Browns to the Super Bowl". |

Dawn just got done working a 16 hour shift her short list if you find a baby squirrel and its wet and or cold dry it and put in on heating pad or towells asap never feed a cold baby squirrel you will kill it untill they start to mature they are alot like kittens as they mature they become "wild" you can feed a squirrel a mix of 50 / 50 goats milk and water if you need to find a person that will re-habilitate / care for them check with your local vet Michael Thanks for the PM she did not understand that you were not around the corner, you cruelty types have never seen one of these guys drop 50 ft going from tree to tree, I would not be supprised if the little guy did not land on his feet and possibly in a near by tree. watch them run thru a chain link fence with a dog in persuit |

I've got 2 bird feeders out, still keeping them filled- there are a couple of squirrels that know where the easy day buffet is... Problem is, I don't make it easy for them. My GF's dog is now trained to react to "squirrel!"- once I let her out the door, she bolts to the feeder tree. If the squirrel doesn't immediately bolt (the smartest and most effective evasion), I get my "squirrel picking stick", about 80% as long as the tree is tall. Once the squirrel hits the ground, Game On!! Cheap thrills!! Yeah, some may call me mean, but I look at it as good Darwinian training for the rodent. Heck, once I've gone to work, they've got it easy once again for the rest of the day. |

There's a real easy way to keep squirrels out of bird feeders. Mix crushed red pepper flakes with the bird seed. Birds do not react to capsaicin, so they don't detect the heat at all. Only mammals respond to the stuff and the squirrels will quickly learn to leave it alone. |

I stopped hunting squirrels on my place about 9 years ago because with 5 walnut trees in the yard I figured out they'd serve me better by packing off the nuts so I wouldn't have to do it. |

Don't go in there, you best beware, don't feed the bears! Hahaha, the metal heads will know what I mean. Thanks for the info Oldog, wish I was around the corner from a rehabber; they'd already have 'em. I've learned my lesson this time, no matter how cute or how much the kids bat their eyes, they'll fend for themselves. |

Speciesist! You got me Hoot! I'm going to try a get a picture if I can or catch it again. I have a cat that stays outside because she won't use the litter box. I caught her and a squirrel eating from the same dish yesterday when I went outside. The squirrel cannon balled into the pond out front. Funny as hell! |

I think you've all misunderstood my statement about animal cruelty. All it takes is the right person to see something like that, call the cops and demand that they enforce the law. You will get fined and or go to jail. I personally know someone this happened to. Flinging a rodent (even though they're cute) shouldn't be illegal. The reality is, the creator of that video can be prosecuted for doing it, and serve time for it, not just get a slap on the wrist. You'd be surprised what constitutes animal cruelty these days. |

And if you disagree with me you're probably a racist fur wearing homophobe who flings rodents and doesn't recycle. |

Takes a lot of squirrel hides to make a coat... You'd have a good sized batch of stew afterward, though. HOMOPHOBE RACIST RODENT FLINGER!!!! LOL |
