I read that illegals are threatening to leave AZ because of their new legislation. That'll certainly show AZ. (not joking BTW!) |

As an immigrant myself, England to France, I've learned the language & take great pleasure from the compliments I get because of it. English speakers are not generally known for their efforts to learn other languages. I have to say in all fairness that I agree with Blake & Hootowl. If you want to be a citizen learn the language. However, providing the instructions on driving test forms in multiple languages doesn't seem unreasonable to me, for a country founded on immigration & conquest. |

Has anyone read Blakes post on what it takes to be a citizen? I pasted the part that is of importance to this topic. Applicants for naturalization must be able to read, write, speak, and understand words in ordinary usage in the English language. Applicants exempt from this requirement are those who on the date of filing: • have been residing in the United States subsequent to a lawful admission for permanent residence for at least 15 years and are over 55 years of age; • have been residing in the United States subsequent to a lawful admission for permanent residence for at least 20 years and are over 50 years of age; • have a medically determinable physical or mental impairment, where the impairment affects the applicant’s ability to learn English. Yes it is true that a person does not have to speak english in America but if they want to be a legal citizen they have to know the basic English language!!! I'm assuming that would be enough to get what they need form the government. If I'm incorrect please tell me or if Blake copied something that is bogus the disregard and just learn the damn language!!! |

Most who are defending the illegal aliens here are operating under the misguided notion that these folks want, in any way, to become US citizens. This is NOT the case. A large portion want to be Mexican citizens with all the perks of being a US citizen without having to earn it. Currently illegal aliens send between $30 and $50B dollars from the US to Mexico. For some, this supports family back home in Mexico. For a large portion, this serves as their "retirement fund" where these dollars will last longer. Immigration without assimilation results in Balkanization. |

What you are missing with the terms of citizenship, is this only applies to those who are not born Americans, like say Puerto Ricans. Damn, threw that little text above right out didn't I. We Puerto Ricans ruin this argument for everyone. Actually this is an old argument. When I was living in Puerto Rico, public schools taught the same curriculum as in the US, but added Spanish. So students learned both English and Spanish from first grade on. Personally I think this is how it should be in states with large latin populations like Cali, Texas and Florida, remember its only knowledge. Well all good things must come to an end and Puerto Rico's bi-lingual approach came to an end several decades ago. Why? Because "In America we speak English!" So US congress pondered and talked about forcing Puerto Ricans to drop Spanish on their street signs (At the time all street signs were in both English and Spanish) and stop teaching Spanish in their schools. As stupid as this sounds, that was our great government in the late seventies and early eighties. In response, Puerto Rican government acted just as dumb and adopted Spanish as their official language. So they took down all the English street signs and stopped teaching English in schools. Stupid because back in my day, Puerto Ricans could travel anywhere in the western hemisphere and do business. Many Puerto Ricans were hired by US firms to increase business in places where Latins were a large portion of the population. I know being bi-lingual allowed me to travel to Mexico for business. Now I agree that all Americans should know English, but it is the cheap drumming of politicians who feed off of narrow minds that just yanks my chain. I guess to me its personal. "I read that illegals are threatening to leave AZ because of their new legislation. That'll certainly show AZ." And the Los Angles mayor is saying LA will boycott us...hmmm is there supposed to be a downside in that? G |

The Unions want illegal immigrants to become citizens. Explain that one to me. If they become union members they will have to pay taxes and health care won't they. I may be wrong. So please help with this one. |

Benefits are negotiable, but the real reason is two fold: 1) Each new member will pay dues to the union. 2) Each new member increases the potential size of the union voting block. http://www.sodahead.com/united-states/why-are-unio ns-for-amnesty---they-know-it-hurts-american-jobs/ blog-59355/ Not being anti-union. It's merely a numbers game where more is better. |

I call bullshit on that. Unions may want more members, but why would an illegal want to join a union? And why would unions want people who will work at substandard wages to join? |

Well isnt this just a shiat perfect storm of stupidity. I have lost 3 Ukrainian bride clients this month because of the economy and illegal immigration issues. "Why the F would I want to come live there when it is over run by mexicans" Right then, you ought know when other immigrants are deciding to stay away that the situation is F-d up. Only a matter of time before we start sending chain letters to Nigeria for money . |

How many illegal Canadians are in the US filling up Hospital Emergency Rooms, and working for slave wages and not paying taxes? |

How many illegal Canadians are in the US filling up Hospital Emergency Rooms, and working for slave wages and not paying taxes? Only the wealthy Canucks clog our hospitals. The ones who can afford to purchase the health care they can't get back home. BO is fixing it so that Canucks won't continue crossing the boarder for superior health care though. |

That's a relief! Sure hate to have our doctors be distracted from filling out federal medical control forms to do procedures for cash! That kinda thing with freedom & all that bourgeois stuff, very bad. I have no problem with some bilingual things. Drivers tests & manuals, ok. As long as you teach the existing signs. What we have learned is that bilingual education as practiced teaching kids in Spanish in an English speaking society is bad for the kids, and their earning potential. Teach languages way earlier than the current system. By the time the hormones are flowing is too late. A 2nd grader can learn anything. A College Professor.....very little. It's like Metric. teach the system, it takes 1 day. Don't make "conversion" the end all be all, it's wrong & stupid. The U.S. went metric in 1895. How's that Hope & Change working for you? Or is that espoir et de changement? |
