New legislation is coming in Oct that will outlaw skull caps. i'm actually ok with this cause i think they're dumb. but i know most of you guys are against laws that take away choice. |

My girlfriend's brother is getting his first bike today. An '84 FXRS. He got a nice leather jacket, has good boots, wants to get some gloves, but refuses to wear a full-face helmet. He bought a brain bucket and riding glasses, and says that once he's out of the city, he'll take off the helmet. I guess something is usually better than nothing, but they haven't perfected face transplants yet. |

Maybe he needs the extra protein the dead bugs will provide? One june bug to the face oughtta convince him of the need for at least a face shield... Those damned things are rocks with wings!! |

I once caught a junebug in the neck...went below the helmet, but above the collar on my leathers....I was at the track...high gear with both stages of nitrous on...just beginning to tick the rev limiter...thats 11,500rpm....a couple of hundredths of a secon after the strike, I crossed the mph beams at 168 mph....that HURT!!! So noone has a kitten over the rpm thing...I was not riding a Buell...I was riding a Kawi... (Message edited by fast1075 on April 28, 2010) |

I had one hit me right on the Adam's apple on the highway. Had to pull over because I couldn't stop gagging! Worse, I actually saw the thing as it flew directly at my throat, but it happened so fast I couldn't react. I HOPED it would hit the chin guard on my helmet but the little bastard dived at the last second and smashed against my unprotected throat instead. |

i to have a friend who is 18 and thinks helmets are for chumps.....me and his GF are slowly convincing him to wear one thought some days he does and some days he doesnt. his GF and i both told him we'd buy him a decent FF helmet for graduation (which is in like a 2 weeks) if he'd wear it. and he agreed to so it looks like i'll have to hit up ebay later and find something decent. the helmet he sometimes wears is just a half helmet, which wile better than nothing doesnt do as much as a FF |

I don't want anyone telling me I am required to wear a helmet, seatbelt, nametag, etc. Screw that, I'm a grown man. Having said that, I choose to wear a full face helmet. AND... very importantly... I keep the visor DOWN when in motion. Caught one of those Japanese green beetles to the eye once... at about 70mph. Very painful, gooey mess inside the helmet. Been stung by bees in the neck a few times, between the leathers and the helmet. I was damn glad it was my neck and not my face. |

I don't like choices being taken away, either, but... my insurance premiums or taxes shouldn't go up because some bozo smashed into a tree at 50 mph with no helmet, or no seatbelt. Easy way is let the insurance companies deny any medical expenses if you weren't wearing a helmet or seatbelt, but this is a dangerous slope... so helmet laws just make everything easier. BTW - in my state, novelty helmets are already illegal. |
