I've read that the Ulysses belt is 135 teeth, 14mm pitch and 1.5" wide, which means they do have viable options. I have an OEM spare belt for each of mine, I'm just curious if anyone has seen/used these before, as maybe they will be a good option once OEM's are not readily available. |

Note: All 1 and 1 1/8 inch belts are designed for show and intended to be used on the road. Hmm... Not sure I want to buy a belt that specifies this. |

Me neither, I'd stick with the OEM spec 1 1/2" belt. |

What they are implying is that these narrower belts are not intended to replace an 1-1/2 wide belt for street applications. Some guys are putting these narrower belts on their Buell choppers with WIDE tires/rims due to clearance issues. The narrower belt will probably not be able to take the loads. Not a surprising warning to add, I think. I had one of the Dayco Panther belts mounted on my 1200 Sportster a while back and it worked fine. (Message edited by prowler on April 23, 2010) |

I'll never understand the "pricing" of drive belts. I can buy two steel belted radial tires for my truck.......for the price of one little stinking drive belt for my Buell.And don't give me any crap about production volume. Between Buell and harley-d,a crew is making drive belts just for them,full time. 10,000 new(past tense) Buells and a couple hundred thousand new harley's every year.........plus replacements......that's a LOT of money X $175.00 each. Yeah,for 36 million dollars,you could build a new factory just to make motorcycle belts and stay pretty damned busy with that proprietary bull crap........ |

The pricing is very simple. There is competition in the tire market. Next to none in the belt market. Competition drives prices down. |

Makes me wonder, would it wad up easier than the stock belt? If so that would be a great carry a spare to get home option. I know Zac had a stock spare under his seat but now that I'm running the carbon canister would there be enough room? Re. pricing, I've wondered about that a lot and it doesn't make a lot of sense. It's mechanically no different than a car timing belt. Only serious operating difference is shock load from gear changes. Otherwise it's a single direction toothed drive belt. Mine has a Goodyear number on it, I'm going to see what I can dig up. (Message edited by sknight on April 24, 2010) |
