Regardless of the economy,there is still a LOT of folks with disposable income and still a lot of those same folks that want a harley SIMPLY because it sez Harley on the tank...and for that reason only....harley's will still sell piles of crap. No other bike company will be able to grab that bad ass image that harley sells for a long time coming. I'm betting the "typical" new harley buyer doesn't know crap about motorcycles. I'm betting the "typical" new harley buyer doesn't know crap about motorcycles. I was talking with a fellow BadWeBber while he was here at the house the other day. He works at a dealership, and one of the funniest stories was about people asking for parts for their new H-D, and they didn't even know what kind of H-D they had. Yep I think H-D is pretty safe from going completely under, as long as they continue selling an image. | ||

I actually ran into that in Biloxi this week Glitch. Guy asked what was wrong with my leg. I told him about my accident and he said he rides. I asked what he rode...H/D. I asked what kind...dresser. Well you can dress any of them really. What bike...the big one with the front fairing. I couldn't believe it! | ||

I couldn't believe it! Me either, I wasn't sure if I should laugh or cry. Let's just hope they can ride. I was also surprised at how few H-D riders actually work on their own bikes. I had no idea how much H-D depends on the revenue coming from the service dept. The bike being so simple to work on was one of the major selling points for me. | ||

On this tack of hd riders, I was over at the dealer returning a front sprocket that was improperly packed, 29t not 27t a young fellow just got his '48 and just wanted to ride it around the lot, his class is next month, I guess they are storing the bike till next month? They put the temp tag on it ( his bike now ) and he rode it after doing a credible job on the HONDA REBEL circling the lot, me I cant tell the HD models apart, and the perplexing alpha-bet soup // slang designators make it cumbersone is that a obxgyner fat-wide-ultra-super-night-boy-glide-classic-herat ige-springer-train-ster? wonder what they are going to replace the blast with, scooters? honda rebels? any way BOT GO EBR GO PEGASUS! | ||

I used to run into HD riders at the dealership that didn't even know what year their bike was? WTF? I can name every bike I have ever owned, the make,model,cc or CI, year,color,mods etc. | ||

It does look like it will be a good season to watch the races in High Def so the competitors tears will be very visible.  And on the off topic... I pulled up to a local dealership to pick up some parts and was on my Firebolt. So as I get off my bike, burly biker dude parks next to me and I nod to him on his Fat Boy and say 'nice day for a ride...'. He tries his best death look and says "They shouldn't allow rice burners to park here" I couldn't help but laugh and laugh then stop at the big Buell display right inside the front door and continue to laugh as if he told me the joke of the year as I stood next to the same model as mine. Don't know if he ever got the punch line or not, but eh. Ben  |
