Title says it all.

Left work yesterday to run home for lunch. Felt a strange pain in my lower back as I was putting on my riding gear. About a mile down the road I pulled into a parking lot and pretty much collapsed in pain. In about 1/2 hour the pain receded enough that I could get up and continue the ride home. Interestingly enough you can lay in a parking lot next to a busy stop light for 1/2 hour and not one person checked to see if I was OK.

Later in the afternoon it got worse, to the point of puking from the pain. Wound up in the ER with some amazing painkillers through an IV. After a few hours of observation I got released with prescriptions for the 3 P's. Pain, pissing and puking.

I've heard that passing kidney stones can be some of the worst pain you can imagine. Now I know what they are talking about. They SUCK!

Ah yes, happen to me as well in a shopping center, I laid on the floor in pain for a good 5 minutes before anyone said anything.

It is like nothing I have ever felt.

Better living through chemicals applies here. I hope you get to feeling better soon Sifo.

IV drugs are great. I woke in the middle of the night a couple of years ago with one, extreme pain! The only good thing is once they pass, provided they're small enough to, so does the pain. Glad you had a quick recovery.

Obviously you aren't in NY, someone would of stopped to check your wallet for ID and to make a withdrawal.

I am the King of Kidney Stones. Since I was 24 years old I've been hospitalized 4 times with the bastards. I even past one once while giving a urine sample. Another time I was on top of a mountain at a ski resort, in the middle of the night, and in a snow storm, and had one of the worst attacks. They wanted to airlift me out but couldn't because of the storm. They drove me down a snow/ice mountain to Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.

Mine are usually over 5mm and won't pass on their own. Lithotripsy only makes them a bit smaller and more numerous. Twice the pain of passing them. I told my Urologist that from now on he is just going to have to go in after them. This last bout sent me to the ER 4 different times for pain meds. Two weeks to pass them all.

You might as well be trying to pass a basketball.

Oh I feel for you... I get them about every 4-5 years.
They only hurt when they are moving, which is a good thing (in a twisted kinda way). My last bout was about 2-3 years ago. Multiple trips to the ER, including one when I got off the plane in Denver (from Pittsburgh, PA), GPS'd directly to the local hospital, got drugged up, and drove another 2-3 hours to Pueblo...., after dark.... in a rental car....on roads that I'd never been on before....can't say I remember too much of that part of the road trip

You should have seen the look on the doc's face after she gave me the pain meds that I told here I was driving solo to Pueblo,...she had that, how do I say it..."OH Expletive" look on her face, I honestly thought she was going to admit me until the stuff wore off.

Yowch! Had my first one when I was 19. Since then have had 4 more, but only two demanded a trip to the Hospital. Now when I start to feel that pain I drink tons of water or beer to flush-em out. Hope yours is gone soon.

Have had emergency gall bladder surgery (100's of stones and almost at the point of rupture), had appendix taken out at the last minutes as I was stupid and thought it was gas and figured that will be it for internal issues for me.

Thanks, forgot about the kidney stones! Time for more coffee....

just remember to stay away from mineral water as that is what caused mine. Unfortunatly here in Afghanistan that was all I have acsess to or sodas and being as I am catholic I had given up sodas for lent which came out to be a bad idea. Now that lint is over I don't drink as much water because I can substitute it for other stuff.

I'm surprised I haven't had them. The most water I drink is what accidently goes in my mouth while in the shower.

My brother had them years ago while we were on a job. He said it felt like he pissed out a sand spur! He had food poisoning on top of it.

I only passed one and it was enough. At least you got some meds. I heard it hit the back of the urinal and the pain was already gone. That's when I let go of the pipes coming out of the wall. Hope they are gone soon.

I'm not sure why but hearing of all this common suffering has made me laugh a bit. Feeling great today with no more meds and am back to work. Just a few sore muscles in my back from all the retching I did for a couple hours. I've heard from 3 mothers now that have said passing a stone was worse than childbirth. YMMV of course, but the stone I had certainly was no fun. I was just surprised how fast I went from feeling fine to laying in a parking lot.

Thanks for sharing my misery!

A bit more comedic suffering from the hospital... The nurse who was putting in the IV seemed to have had some troubles. My wife said she did it multiple times, I really wasn't paying any attention. I do look like a junkie with needle tracks on my left arm though.

This must have been a very inexperienced nurse. Everyone else comments on how large and easy to hit my veins are when they have to stick me.

Ouch! After my nasty bout with the crusty little buggers, I cut my milk intake way back and drink way more water. Fortunately, no return of them, and I hope to keep it that way. I've NEVER had less fun.

So none of you iceholes let me know that you can feel great for many hours only to have it hit you again. I was riding back to work yesterday afternoon when it hit again. Turned around and got home moments before the puking started (I was less than a mile from home).

Well I knew I had to flush myself with water. I also knew that puking would dehydrate me. So the battle began... Drinking water down only to puke it up minutes later. Took some pain meds once the puking settled, puked that up after 30 minutes. Left me unsure about what kind of dosage I may have actually gotten. Terrible pain for another 6 hours, but really didn't want another ER visit.

The good news... I got it in a strainer so I know it is out! Not allowed back at work today because of pain meds.

Joshinga, this one's for you...

I've suffered plenty of broken bones and had numerous surgeries without much complaint but gall stones kicked my a$$. I feel for anybody with kidney stones.

My buddy laid on the bathroom floor and begged for his wife to shoot him, they hurt so bad.
