While not being able to ride I'm looking for a wrecked/salvage bike to rebuild. It will give me something to do and I could have it rebuilt by the time my leg is heathly enough to ride. Everything I've come across runs the same cost as private sales I've seen. You guys have any ideas?

ebay and try to talk sense into the seller. Everyone thinks their wreck is worth it's weight in gold. Check your local laws to see how much trouble it will be to register a salvage title machine before buying something, it's a lot of trouble in NY so I won't touch them. Wrecked with a clean title would be a different subject.

Yeah Neil, they won't tell you that an uninsured rider isn't covered if something happens either. But they'll take your money even though they know the rider isn't the legal owners. DOUCHE BAGS!

I haven't contacted insurance companies yet but I'm looking for something that has a clean title or has a salvage "rebuild" title.

Either this or I'm going to buy an 80's model F-150 to rebuild. I'm bored and got a little extra money. Just can't go crazy cause the Newbie Martello is only weeks away!

I have a full set of firebolt plastics and a frame that will be for sale soon and the frame has a salvaged title (I forget what state it is from though) but it also has a big dent on one side but since you helped me out with that seat if you want any of it I will give you first dibs when i get home in a few weeks to take pictures of it all.

I bought a wrecked XT, It was a light laydown, it cost about $500 to repair. It was a total. It has a salvage/rebuilt title. I got it from a shop that does alot of wrecked bike repairs, they bought it at auction down south, and I bought it from them with out repairs. When I got it finished I took it back and paid a cop $50 to do an inspection which is mandatory in Michigan. The insurance company knows it is a salvage/rebuilt and insures it for collision no problem, Formost insurance. I have 4 bikes, 2 with collision, for $1000 per year for all four.

Get some frame pucks with the money you get from selling that stuff. The damage to my frame came from the truck's bumper. When the bike hit the road, the frame pucks and sliders kept it off the ground. The frame holding the gas was the biggest issue. I brought it to H/D to be inspected for the insurance company. the $1,400 for the new frame put me over the top. Hence...TOTALED. I've been looking for my bike online. Can't find it.

Just thought of something....

You think the insurance would tell me who they sold my bike to?
