NY Senator Schumer calls for carry-on bag fee legislation We don't have to like the financial decisions that Spirit Airlines is making, but they are Spirit Airlines to make. Can we have a law passed whereby the House and Senate can't pass laws that are ridiculous and unconstitutional? |

Maybe we should pay airfare by the pound. Everyone gets to walk across the scales with their carry-ons and then shell out for the ticket. Maybe the airlines need to figure out how to make a run without dumping half their fuel at the end so they will be light enough to land. |

All these fees could possibly be justified if they gave you some damn food. I was on a flight from Tampa to AZ. I got 1 coke. I asked for a bag of chips and was told that would be $2.00. $2.00 for a bag of chips I can buy for .99c in a store. I'm tired of flying. I get harrassed due to the plates in my arm and rods in my leg even though I have documents stating so. If I have to bring my tools it costs nearly $200.00 dollars because their over 50lbs. I've had multiple suitcases and toolboxes destroyed by the baggage guys. I have to use a TIA lock. In turn I've had tools stolen because they have keys to those locks. It's all bullshit! |

I just wish they'd enforce the maximum carry on size rules, make that a federal law, I'll support that. |

What with all the security check's & you can't take this & you cant take that, etc etc, & now more fees. We'll all end up flying wearing just a paper boiler suit & carrying a credit card. Or get the train. |

driving > flying I'd much rather drive than fly. I hate flying. Usually not my choice though. |

I've found it rather difficult to drive to Puerto Rico and the Hawaiian Islands myself. |

What I don't get is why these airlines insist on nickel and diming us. Just raise your damn rate to cover your increased costs. Why is that so hard??? Ryan Air is planning on putting in pay toilets for crying out loud!! When will it end?? |

+1. Everyone loves to say that flying is so much safer than driving. But, I'd rather have something go wrong when I'm not 5,000 feet up in the air Plus I can smoke, stop if ya need to, and only I decide when I take my shoes off! |

I've found it rather difficult to drive to Puerto Rico and the Hawaiian Islands myself. Well then, you obviously weren't driving fast enough. Gotta get the "skip" going. ~SM |

I figure I'll walk on with a carry-on mason jar. If I need to take a leak, I'll just whip it out in the seat and pee in the bottle. What can they do?? If passengers can carry on food rather than buy the stupid crackers they provide, why can't they carry on their own disposal units too?? Even better... BED PANS!! |

Now here's a real good idea, if I don't say so myself. Make Chuckie, and all the rest of them, fly commercial and charge him one per cent of the stupid wasteful spending he did that day. Would cost him millions to fly to DC. Am I right, my brothers? Matter of fact, would keep them all at home, more's the better.

Funny, I don't remember being mugged as a child, and most Puerto Ricans speak at least four languages fluently. How many do you speak? Just one, I'll bet... and you seem to be having trouble with your spelling. |

Oh, flying sucks by the way. Unless you're pre-cleared and go first class. I got upgraded to first class for free on my most recent return trip from Atlanta. N-I-C-E. |

You guys are missing the point. The Federal Government doesn't have the power to regulate whether a private company can charge fees for luggage. |

Although I think the airline in question is shooting itself in the foot here. I have to agree that it's not government's job to regulate the way a company sells it's services. Customers are savvy enough (well European ones are, can't speak for American) to work out their costs before committing to purchase. I've flown quite a bit over the years, both long haul & short no frills. I've never seen anybody get on the plane with NO baggage whatsoever. The answer of course is to get yourself a large lightweight overcoat & sew a load of pockets inside it of varying sizes to put all your stuff in. It's not luggage it's a garment. I'd love to see the check-in girls face. |

check out ScotteVest They make travel-friendly clothing, lots of pockets. Also, they're the only company who makes a garment with an iPad pocket. |

I would be scared shitless if I saw someone get on a plane without luggage, because they know its a one way trip! |

I'll be going on a 23 hour plane ride in a little over a month from now. NOT looking forward to that part of the trip. Then, it's another 23 hour ride back home, ugggh! I know they are going to HOSE me on luggage. 2 bows, hunting gear, trail cameras etc. |

I've been stuck at checking bartering on the cost of shipping windsurfing gear. It always varied from one agent to the next. Often by many hundreds of dollars. It would be nice to know what the cost of travel would be before you show up at the airport. At that point they have you by the short hairs. Having said that Schumer's idea of regulating this is ridiculous as well as being another overreaching power grab. The free market can sort it out better than the government. |

Schumer is just jumping the gun a bit... he thinks our society has already become the socialist paradise that Cuba is. |

Since there are more than one airline to choose from, why not pick the one that charges the least or none at all for luggage? If the fair price were increased to cover costs and the luggage costs were hidden, would it be better? If a company can't survive without the fees, it will go out of business. |
