2004 155 hp 2.2L Opel/Vauxhall Vectra and Signum
2005 2.0L turbo Opel GT/Pontiac Solstice GXP/Saturn Sky Red Line
2007 same engine used in Chevrolet Cobalt SS and the HHR-SS.
Also for 07, the 3.6L in the Cadillac STS and CTS. This same 3.6L is also in the 2009 GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave, Saturn Outlook. These vehicles are also available with a 3L V6 for the base models.
The 2010 Camaro like stated above has the same 3.6L
They have more coming, including a 1.8L for the next Aveo and Cruze, and they were working on adding to some V8's but I haven't seen anything set in stone. |

VW/Audi group has a Turbo Direct injection gas engine that's won tons of awards (International engine of the year as well as top 10 worlds best engines) since 2005. |

Then how do you explain the (obvious) advantages of Direct Injection?
I'm far from an expert on injection.
I am on the history of Direct Injection now. I'm on a chapter talking about the 1970 ProCo injection and why it was canceled.
Direct injection has huge advantages over external injection for a family car. But at higher RPM external injection has better atomization and burn capability.

GM actually started using Direct Injection gasoline engines in 2004 with the Isuzu Axiom. |

Back a few years (like fifteen) while working at Outboard Marine's Research division, I spent quite a bit of time designing and developing injector nozzle systems for Evinrude's DI two stroke system. Hopefully a DI two stroke motorcycle engine will show up someday soon.......

Remember how they said they were awesome and would bring back two strokes?
Depressing is all.
Anyone here know where Bimota went wrong?

I'd like to see the technology in our 1961 M35A2 Deuce-and-a-half make it to mainstream cars. Direct-injected (granted, it's mechanical, not electronic), turbocharged, MULTI-fuel engine.
It runs on diesel.
It runs on Kero.
It runs on unleaded.
It runs on UMO (used motor oil).
Hell, I've run it with citronella in the tank so the exhaust would help keep 'skeeters away (no lie).
The only thing they say not to run it on, is AvGas. Other than that...if it burns, it's liquid, and has some lubricant in it (for the pumps; they recommend not running straight Kero because it's relatively "dry")...damn thing will run on it with no complaints.

Oil wouldn't care. Most products are produced by the oil companies that you can put in that engine. The only thing they don't produce is used fry oil.
EPA would and does have problems with it. |
