I just got done reading the demise of Buell and looking at the Barracuda 2 really Pisses me off...I would buy one today if it was for sale. The only bright side of the story was the last sentence.
"And in about a year, his non-compete agreement expires, allowing him to build street motorcycles again, if he so chooses."
To Erik I would like to ask, please come back and build street motorcycles again. I want a Barracuda.
Im with ya on that.... I give the "mothership" the traditional birdy salute every time I ride by. I have to say my favorite line is, and sums it up pretty good...
" It's about not listening to the voice of the customer"
I think my anger is starting to turn into excitement, cant wait to see what happens.
amen brother, I hate Harley and not just because of the buell thing.......I have always hated Harleys RATTLE TRAPS!!!
The first time i ever stepped into a Harley dealership, Harley Davidson of salt lake city, UT. I was there for a L.E.D. brake light bulb and i had just called 10 minutes ago to see if it was in stock. I arrived at the Stealer-ship and met this red head parts manager who was the king of douche bags. He tried to tell me that the bulb would not work on an X1. What a (F%$# this douche is) the tail light assembly came from a sportster. I wanted to drag his ass over the counter and out to the bike to show his stupid a$$ it was the same. So i could see the bulb behind him on the shelf, So i pointed it out and said isn't that it right there. He then stepped to his left blocking my view of the bulb and he said it wont work.
So i turned around and gave him the finger and shouted f%$k HD and walked out!
So when i got home i posted here what the douche had said and done. All of sudden he starts posting on BW as salt lake HD dealer and tried to say i was pissed when i walked in.......Now not only is he a DCanoe "He is a liar too" I was in a great mood, I had the day off and i was riding my favorite bike what could be nicer. UNTIL I MET A true A$$ Hat. I even called ahead to see if it was in stock and a very nice parts employee told me he had it in stock for$12.95
From that moment on i vowed never to buy anything from those muther-------
Had a similar situation with throttle cables for my S2. After I was told gruffly that they didn't sell parts for Buells and told that they couldn't help me when I asked "wouldn't sportster cables work?" I hung up and called back a little later asking if they had cables for a 96 Sportster. They did and they worked just fine, I just didn't tell them they were going on a Buell.
There are really crappy dealers and really good ones.
I KNOW that you would have had a different experience at our dealership.
I think that the Salt Lake dealership was one of the first to drop off last year ahead of the announcement. They weren't with the Buell program long ago.
Right now, HD has a sick "head". Unlike people, corporations can swap heads. The next one will be healthier or the body will die.
The bikes are good.
The people who build them are good.
The people who support them at the dealership are generally good.
There are exceptions of course.
The thousands of people who support HD are not to blame for the few a$$hats.
I had some very good and very bad experiences in HD dealerships. The older the rider / employee I was working with, the better the experience. So I'm with Mr. Ft... the sickness within HD is recent. And not uncommon for any wildly successful company. It's like winning the lotto, its a great way to make most people crash and burn.
I'm not a super fan of the H-D brand or the Chrome sofa's.... BUT!
I would love to have a FLHPI.
My local dealer has one... I was drooling I could see chopping off about 75 or more pounds of guards, lights, a muffler.... raise the floor boards to their highest position and go chase squids on the twisty roads... I could still have some fun with a few H-D products.....
I just can't wait to see what Erik does next. I think H-D should have tried to sell Buell to BRP because I think Erik being there (or someplace better) is inevitable....
I was over the HD thing till I saw the B2 in Cycle World. That bike was so unbelievably perfect. It looked stunning, made more power, and had new ergos. There is NO WAY I could have not owned that bike.
