This phone is the best thing since roasted rabbit got basted with orange sauce and served with baby potatoes. There is literally an app for every damn thing. I've had it for about 18 hours now and I'm absolutely pleased. It's everything I ever wished for in a phone. I won't waste time comparing it to an iPhone. It's better. Period. |

ABSOLUTELY. Did you get the 2.1 upgrade yet? I've loaded it up with apps with thoughts of traveling. This way, no matter where I am, I can see the weather forecast, find out where the good hotels are, and the closest movie theatre and what's playing. I can also keep up with all my Facebook friends too. Hey Blake! Where's the Android app for BadWeb?? |

I'm waiting for someone to root 2.1 before I install it. I had this thing hacked within 20 minutes of plugging it in. Full service wifi mobile hotspot baby!!! I can already run the 2.1 version apps though, I have some 2.1-based roms installed that allow it. Multi touch, gestures, all that jazz. So far I really like the Wikitude and Google Goggles. Just point your camera at stuff and see all kinds of information about everything. |

Apply the OFFICIAL upgrade from Verizon/Motorola manually: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/03/31/manual-androi d-2-1-update-for-motorola-droid/ Worked like a champ. No need to wait for the OTA update. |

Fun fact: Verizon had to pay George Lucas an undisclosed amount of money to use the word "Droid". Apparently he copyrighted it back when he started making the Star Wars movies... |

Yeah hacked in the sense that I've got root access and can do whatever I want with the file system. Somebody out there is working on getting Solaris on the Droid right now. Should be interesting. |

solaris on the droid? Might have been interesting before Oracle Borged sun. Now that solaris is going non-free and stuff won't make it into open solaris, I not sure how it all going to play out. The droid is pretty neat. My next phone will be android based, for sure, perhaps a nexus one when they come to sprint. |

I held a Droid the other day and couldn't believe how HEAVY they are! Crazy. Anyway, I can't wait til Blackrain or Redsnow release a new jailbreak for iPhone. I goofed and updated my phone with the last restore (no choice) before I found out how yo fix te simple problem i was having. I miss my jailbreak. Made so many features of the iPhone "come alive". I don't think one phone is way better than the other at this point. However, since I have good AT&T 3G coverag. In my area, and I can use my phone/Internet while still on the phone, that makes a huge difference IMHO. |

Despite what Luke Wilson would have you believe... you can do that with the Droid too. You can also play music, run the GPS navigation AND take phone calls all at the same time (and check E-Mails at red lights). Try THAT with an iPhone. Oh... and when the battery eventually does need replacement? I can do that MYSELF without voiding the warranty. |

I got mine for only $150 because I had a trade-in allowance on my old phone. A friend in Arizona got TWO for $150 because Verizon is having a "Buy one Smartphone, get another for free" deal right now. |

"Might have been interesting before Oracle Borged sun. Now that solaris is going non-free and stuff won't make it into open solaris, I not sure how it all going to play out." What? Solaris has always been a for pay operating system. OpenSolaris is the new way that they are doing development work instead of SCXE. So far I have not seen one credible report that Oracle is doing anything to Sun except reaping the benefits of the Solaris speed with their database engine, they are bragging all over about how fast it is now compared to anything else. Tie that up with the possible huge storage volumes that ZFS can allow and you can see why they wanted it. Now all that said I am still waiting for the 2010/02 then 2010/03, now looks like 2010/04 version to hit so that I can get back to the work that I need to learn about their Comstar with iSCSI stuff towards an about 24TB storage machine. As far as OpenSolaris on Arm processors, I haven't started looking at that, though I know they are working on it and it could make a serious ipad competitor. I was running OpenSolaris on my Laptop but stopped waiting for the newest real release so I could get Flash videos working again. Flash did not work on the 134 build the last time I checked. |

I can run music, GPS, and taking calls at the same time no prob. Done it before, but I don't anymore because the music and call use the same volume meter so it's hard to hear the call. Probably something that will change in a future version. And I wasn't saying that the Droid couldn't run Internet/calls at the same time, I was saying that Verizon doesn't. I don't know which GPS you're using, but it could've had the info you were watching already streamed. Try streaming a Youtube video or surfing the web while talking on the phone. |

The Droid is smart enough to stop the music during the duration of the call. However, since a "direction change" is sort of important in a moving car, the GPS will interrupt the call to notify you of an upcoming change of direction. |

The music stops automatically when making/taking a call on the iPhone as well. I can manually go back into the iPod and start it again while on the phone. Then go into the web or GPS or whatever else I wanna do. |

That's how the first gen iPhones were, before 3G. Now, as long as I have 3G coverage, I can do both simultaneously. |

Funny thing... the Droid is a wonderful PHONE too, but... according to my last bill I didn't use ANY of my minutes last month. All texting and data. Damn! I still find it hard to believe that I have a phone that is magnitudes more powerful than the first SEVERAL generations of home computers I've owned. I COULD have owned the worst phone in the world on the worst network but I decided to stick with the best network and go with the Droid. Www.droidforums.net has a wealth of information. I will readily admit I am getting hands on help from an experienced Droideka. I was listening to pandora on the phone's speaker while browsing facebook and talking on the phone via bluetooth. Oh did I mention that I was adding music to my sd card over wifi via my phone's ftp server app... simultaneously. Meanwhile I was also tracking the zombies invading long beach on google maps in the background Droid DOES. |

Wait till the new iphone comes out this summer. Still the Iphone is heads and shoulders above the droid. My son just got the droid. it is okay, but nothing like an iphone. he is afraid he made a wrong decision, especially with the new iphone coming out this summer. My two edition ago iphone is better than the droid is now. |

There are other phones that run the Android OS. All the major carriers have similar phones to the Droid. |

Yeah I found the rooted version a few hours after I posted that. I hear people say things like "iphone is better". Sure, it's pretty good. Do they loan you a phone while they replace your battery? |
