I know some of you guys are scooter fans too so I thought you'd like this.
Had dinner this evening with my mate Pascal & his family. He's a Vespaholic, restores old ones & what's more races one too. Here's some footage of his 2nd ever race last year at the Magny Cours Grand Prix Kart circuit. At about 4 min 30 he reels in & passes an Orange machine, the rider has been well up in the European championship for some years & was not chuffed about being seen off by a rookie. Pascal's scoot is a Vespa 125 with a Quattrini engine kit kicking out just over 20bhp on the dyno.
This season he's campaigning something a bit special. Same bike but he's got a Falc 153 kit on it with a 38mm Keihin flatslide. over 30bhp!! & the whole thing weighs in at only 110 lbs !!!
Here's the first fire-up after the build.
I'm hoping to get to see him race it later in the year.
And just to show what they go like here's a street legal one in Sweden with the same motor in it.
I used to have a Lambretta Li125 that could whoop any motorcycle once around a city block in San Francisco. They're extremely nimble and handle surprisingly well under 35mph.
i'm sure barker will be looking at this one anytime soon. kinda like ripping around in an older mini. very nimble.
the oldest brother had a vespa back in the early 70's that he was gonna rebuild but that never happened. i'll bet he can kick himself in the butt for that one.
