I like the look of all the new Sportsters they've come out with. Much better than the baby-big twin look they had before. However... my beef is with the marketing. When H-D released this thing, they did their best to convince the reader that it was cutting edge, that their engineers were really kicking it up a notch. That's just insulting. Any moron can see it's a minor styling tweak and nothing more. ~SM |

Until Buell came into light for me in 2004, I had never, and would never set foot in a HD dealership. It felt strangely odd the first time I went in to look at a Buell, like I crossed a border line into a different country. When I started riding in the seventies I rode dirt bikes, Hondas. So when I moved on to the road I bought Hondas. Riding with HD riders of the time in poker runs and such proved to me that I was in the right place for me. The leather and chrome crowd was more full time hard core about it then. Kind of gangland style, you were in or out, if you went in, it was all of the way in, and difficult to get out. The Dr's and Lawyer's were patching them up and defending them, not so much riding with them at that time. These "NEW" bikes are such a load of crap. Hell they don't even bother to change the wrapper. Just add another suffix letter to the name and add a base coat color without the clear. Wo-ho. Thrilled for sure. When Buell came out with the XB THAT was "NEW". No where in motorcycling had any other manufacturer produced a bike that it's components 'made that much sense'. I guess I will always seek independence over fitting in. |

well this is what buell has done for the past decade. Yeah, like that was Buell's fault? What rock have you been under? |

Yeah, my beef isn't with the bike. I actually think it is a nice looking bike. I like the nightster too. My issue comes from all the hype they are trying to create about something that is really just a new paint job and some styling bits. That does not make a "New cutting edge bike". |

What i don't understand, is HD calling it a new bike when all that changed are small bits and pieces. For example the Ford Taurus, Taurus is the model and there are various trims to it, SE, SEL and SHO. So in 2004 a new bike was unveiled, and all subsequent "new bikes" have been just new trim levels. To be a new model in my mind would involve a new frame, otherwise, it is called a face lift. |

well this is what buell has done for the past decade. Yeah, like that was Buell's fault? What rock have you been under? Harley is trying to sell bikes in a down economy. I have never seen more people complain about that. Don't act like Buell never created hype over a repackaged bike. Was this one revolutionary compared with the other XB lineup? ....the new Lightning Super TT XB12STT packed with tenacious performance and distinctive urban character. The Lightning Super TT, launched today at the EICMA 64th Annual International Motorcycle Exhibition in Milan, Italy, is built for battle with characteristic Buell Streetfighter innovation and excitement. http://www.buell.com/en_us/experience/news/detail. asp?news_id=1095 |

Just like the XB TT and the XB CityX in the Buell Lineup. Does that give some of you Buell Guys a clue to the mystery of HD? Everyone is just still mad Harley dumped Buell. Don't act like Buell never created hype over a repackaged bike. You're not getting it. Buell was under the thumb of H-D. Buell Advertising = H-D Advertising The same people Buell design and what was actually available was all under the watchful eye of H-D. H-D was the reason a full faired bike was never released. The Barracuda 1 and 2 would never see the showroom floor because they didn't meet what H-D decided what a bike ought to be. H-D kept Buell from growing as fast as they could have, and ultimately killed the brand. Read a few articles if you think I don't know what I'm talking about. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/253 912/253912.html?1269632981 Plus there are many threads here with posts by people in the know, that are saying exactly what I'm saying. I'm not digging on you for liking H-D or their bikes. I am digging on H-D for not having an original idea in many years, and squelching anything new being brought forward by the Buell design & engineering teams. Enjoy your H-D, I know I would if I wanted one. |

I really don't know what everyone hang up is with the sportster and what Harley is doing with the new dark custom stuff. My problem is/was that it is overweight, underpowered, and handled horribly. My wife had an '07 883 Low, which is essentially the same as an Iron. It caught every groove in the highway, you felt every bump in the road, took forever to stop it. I had only ridden this bike around town until one time I rode it on the freeway and told her this bike has to go. The next week she test rode an XB12Scg and it was like she had been riding all her life, much more intuitive for her, and she nearly did a stoppy the first time she hit the brake. H-D engineers are dinosaurs looking for a way to change the face of the dinosaurs they ride. They should have paid closer attention to Buell and given him whatever he wanted, it would have changed Harley for the better. |

That TT was all Harley Branded Marketing. It never should have been pitted in the same relm as the Hyper. The numbers are way off. It should have been pinned as the ULY Sport; the stripped down version when you just dont need the rear passenger, pegs, or rear bags; when getting out of Dodge does not include the old ball and chain. It was a great bike.... of course if you look at my CITX-Y circa May 2006, you would see why I thought so. Had they had the 12o3 version, that is where I would have been.

"The new 57 Dark Custom, harkens back to the days when the original came out, with stylin reminescent of yesteryear but shod in the new Dark Custom Clothes. Come see it, we bet you like it. Oh yeah, F*ck the economy, bitch up and buy a bike already."

I like this one. Somebody makes a weld on tail section, special wheels, and forks. This was out before the 48 came out. I like this one. Now if I could find a sportster that is wrecked, and get this kit, I would have a bobber. |

I think RSD got it right with this one. Give the Thruxton a run for its money and grab some cafe riders.

Mayb another tv series like "Then Came Bronson" or a few movies like "The Wild Bunch" and "Easy Rider" will bring these folks back to "the lifestyle". After the "Rat Patrol" fans grew up, jeep cj'sales took off. O well just a social comment about how effective models are in entrenching wants in young minds. |

I couldn't imagine doing 400 miles on a low style sportster The thought that this bike replaces a Buell actually makes me laugh. I know at least 50 guys who can run like hell through the backroads and/or do 400 miles cruising through the byways. I know nobody who would or want to do it on a sportster. I mean aside from the Buell having a better engine stiffer frame fully adjustable suspension better tires sportbike handling and outrite great comfort and low unsprung weight and extreme flickability they are almost the same. |

Hah, Bronson. Just met with a guy today, painting his bike Bronson red and putting the eyeball decals on the tank. On the 48 subject, saw one at HCHD today. kinda neat looking bike. BUT it looks like what people have been doing to the nightster for the past few years and I still don't dig it enough to buy one. Especially after the Beull debacle I'll never own a HD |

Grancuda, nice 883. The reason I say "same old sportster, different color" is because it is. I had an Ironhead sporty quite a few years back, and I loved it. This "new model" isn't much different considering how many years have passed. It's basically the same bike. Certainly not worth that amount of hype. "New model" should mean just that, an all new design, not just new trim. I agree the introduction of the Stt Lightning was basically the same b.s., but as Glitch pointed out, it was H.D.s marketing department blowing all the whistles about it. That bike wasn't "all new" either. |

I have a '75 sportster which I like, but despite 35 years of evolution, I have a hard time convincing myself that a new one would really be much different of a ride. OTOH, I have a hard time believing my XB12 has anything in common with my old ironhead... |

The only 'new' sportster that will be gracing my garage is a 72 that I am eyeing... and I have a line on a set of XR750 heads.... delicious, and still for HALF of what that 48 is going for. |
