Certainly a reaction to seeing the police officer, he was going way slow at the time. No way he scrubbed off that much speed in that short a time to only slide 20 feet. I bet the cops sit there because there are a lot of slides and people running over the line, but it sure doesn't help to see them right in the middle of your slide path if you are coming in really hot, would be better to have them back another 100 feet.
I would be careful anywhere sand is bermed up on the roadside....most lowsides in florida I have seen (or experienced) are from that almost invisible layer of sand in the apex...just saying...might have been sand.
Kinda rotten for him to be sitting there if you ask me.
Not really. Those roads aren't even fun to ride anymore on a weekend because of the squids, on bikes and in cars.
My wife and I were following a Suburban on a tight section of Old Topanga couple years ago. As we approached a tight left hander a group of pseudo-sportbike riders came around the turn toward us, although relatively slowly. Then one couldn't make it apparently and overshot the curve and across the path of the SUV and onto the shoulder. Followed by another. And another.
The third guy tried to save it, dumped it and slid right into the SUV which lucky for him had stopped. Broke him up a bit and knocked him cold, and his ignoramus friends all stood around panicky not knowing what to do. My wife and I stayed around long enough to take stock of the guy and calm him down once he came to, then split once the CHP got there.
And it's not just bikes and cars, those innocent bicyclists are well known out there for riding 2-3 abreast around blind turns, running stop signs, ignoring right of way. And since there are guys out there every weekend videoing and some post signs about it, any squid who's a true squid tries to show off.
Point is, it's not real fun riding the Santa Monica Mountains any more on the weekend. The cops need to be out there.
